In a world where "witches, vampires, werewolves, and shape-shifters live beside ordinary people" (Booklist), it takes a very unusual woman to call it home. By day, Mercy Thompson is a car mechanic in Eastern Washington. By night, she explores her preternatural side. As a shape-shifter with some unusual talents, Mercy's found herself maintaining a tenuous harmony between the human and the not-so- human on more than one occasion. This time she may get more than she bargained for.

The author has kept the people in the books consistent and their voices strong as they progressed book to book, and the narrator is excellent! This story doesn't have excessive violence- though there is some regardless, but no sexual abuse.

I'm hoping that she gives Ben a book one day- I like his personality and PB gave us just a little teaser of his tender side.

I look forward to listening to the next one and hope they continue for a long while. Thanks, Patricia!

We're Supernatural Protection & Investigations, known as SPI. We battle the real monsters of myth and legend, but this Halloween we're searching for diamonds.... A gala opening at the Metropolitan Museum of Art has attracted the upper crust of Manhattan - and thieves. A trio of vile harpies attacks the crowd and steals the stars of the exhibition: a colorful cluster of seven cursed diamonds known as the Dragon Eggs. In the right mage's hands, each stone can pack a magical wallop.

What made the experience of listening to The Dragon Conspiracy the most enjoyable?

I like the characters that LS has developed in this series- I haven't read her other series, so can't speak to those. I love the Southern Girl in the Big Apple back story that goes along with the main story with Dragons, elves, shifters, demons, medusa', etc. No spoilers, but this is a great summer listen, I liked it and am looking forward to the next instalment.

Have you listened to any of Johanna Parker’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

LOVE Johanna Parker- she always gives a great performance and has certainly done so in this book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but truthfully, I feel that way about most books. :)

Former small-town girl Amery Hardwick is living her dream as a graphic designer in Denver, Colorado. She's focused on building her business, which leaves little time for dating - not that she needs a romantic entanglement to fulfill her. When her friend signs up for a self-defense class as part of her recovery after an attack, Amery joins her for support. That's where she meets him. Ronin Black, owner of the dojo, is so drawn to Amery that he takes over her training - in public and in private. The enigmatic Ronin pushes Amery's boundaries from the start, and with each new tryst, Amery becomes addicted to the pleasure and to him.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

NO, it was just not up to LJ's usual expertise. I've read and listened to all of LJ's western themed books- they have dominant men, wonderful character development, lots of smoking' hot sex and EMOTION! There is a cultural representation and familial development in those books. I will give her credit for a different approach to all the BDSM books that are coming out since FSOG (which were flawed as well). In this series, LJ is using Japanese rope bondage( an ancient art- and it IS an art) to provide the structure of the 'kink'. The thing is, the way the lead male is portrayed- he is 'dominant' but not a Dominant, per se. So if that is what you are looking for you will not find it in this book. A book that better portrays the D/S experience and psychology is 'Honor Bound' by Joey W. Hill- sadly it doesn't come out in audio. The female in the story annoyed me- she was supposed to be 'city-smart' after living in Denver for many years despite a small town fundamentalist Christian upbringing- but too naive to know that if you are getting jacked by four guys in a street on the seedy side of town- you are probably not going to get out of it unscathed even if you cooperate. The whining really got on my nerves.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It provides a segue into the next book, which is what many of the writers are doing these days. Though to give LJ credit- at least her book is a full sized novel at over 8 hrs and not two or three novellas that eventually make up a whole book.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

    Sure.

    Any additional comments?

The narrators did the best they can- Luke Daniels is always a professional and this is the first time I've heard anything by Rachel Vivette, but thought she did a good job on an odd accent.

What did you love best about Hell Hounds Are For Suckers?

I liked the narrators voices- well done. Also, the female lead wasn't whiney, going on and on ad nauseum. She had interesting friends that give s**t because they give a s**t about their friends. I'll explore this series further.

Valerie Gilbert is awesome! Love the British accent on the Gin. :)

Twenty months ago, Jamie and Lauren crashed a coven meeting in Chicago - a visit they barely remember. Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this whole series- the compassion and empathy with which Debora Geary writes is inspiring. She is a sensitive soul and gives that trait to the characters in her books. It is so well written.

What did you like best about this story?

She captures how hard it is for someone that is high functioning Asperger's- knowing that they are not getting social cues, and wanting to fit in so badly.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When Beth is complaining that the other witches eat like children and try to get them to eat more protein.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

All of Debora Geary's books are ones I'd like to listen to in one go, but of course, life intervenes.

    Any additional comments?

Martha Harmon Pardee is a wonderful narrator.

What did you love best about The Unleashing?

This is a new series from one of my favourite authors. I have read/listened to EVERYTHING she has written( both as Laurenston and Aiken)- many times over and this story will be no different. I love the Viking mythology that is incorporated into the story. The Crows and the Ravens are awesomely contentious and the different personalities make a ton of friction and interest. I'm trying hard not to do a spoiler. :)

What other book might you compare The Unleashing to and why?

Well, the women in this story are strong, mouthy and battle ready. Like our beloved dragons in G A Aiken and the shifters in Laurenston's Pride/Smith stories. Hmm... other authors....Lorelei James writes strong cowgirls but no shifters, Jeanine Frost writes strong women but with Vampires. There are others, but no one does it like Shelly Laurenston.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When Kera took the hammer from the old Raven in Asgard, and after he watched her systematically kill a Frost Giant with it- he told Vig 'good luck with that'. ;)

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! But I had to go to work! So it took about three sittings. But I'm doing it again this weekend. I can tell that this will be a book I will listen to at least twice more this year.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This might be good to someone 18 or 20 yrs old that is just getting into adult books, but not for someone that is well read.

What was most disappointing about Diana Palmer’s story?

The story is just too trite. Painfully trite.

Have you listened to any of Phil Gigante’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Phil Gigante is an excellent narrator and did the very best with this story- but even his mighty efforts couldn't redeem it.

    Any additional comments?

This put me off of Diana Palmer. I wouldn't be willing to spend a credit on a book from her again. Until I read something better from her, I won't spend the money on audio.

Would you listen to Rode Hard, Put Up Wet again? Why?

I've already listened to it several times- it's a great story! Before I bought it on audio, I read it from the library. This is primarily a great story about an older heroine- and how great passionate love can happen when you are older and be just as fulfilling. For an extra spicy facet- it also introduces the problems that comes with falling for an OCD artist with a younger couple centered around Carter McKay- one of the brothers we haven't heard much from yet. Awesome story!

What did you like best about this story?

There was amazing balance and sweetness in Gemma and Cash's story and it would have gone too smoothly- Hey! They are older and wiser, have loved and know who they are! But by adding the story of Carter McKay and Cash's daughter for spice and rough patches, it made this story a 5/5 for me.

Have you listened to any of Rebeca Estrella’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She is always great, consistant and a joy to listen to. Thank you Rebecca!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Hard to without spoilers, but when Cash relates why he can't look at Gemma while they make love is very sweet. Many of Carter's explosions moved me to want to smack him up along side the head, but then I remember 'this is a story' :)

    Any additional comments?

I love LJ's western books. Her men are alphas, the women no fools and the stories are credible( especially regarding what goes on behind the chutes in rodeo- don't let anyone tell you differently).

We’re Supernatural Protection & Investigations, known as SPI. Things that go bump in the night, the monsters you thought didn’t exist? We battle them and keep you safe. But some supernatural baddies are just too big to contain, even for us. What made the experience of listening to The Grendel Affair the most enjoyable?

It was a well designed story. Unlike the other contributors, I didn't find the heroine whiney, etc. I found her just fine and certainly practical considering she has no practical experience in monster hunting.

What other book might you compare The Grendel Affair to and why?

    Supernatural

What about Johanna Parker’s performance did you like?

She is a great narrator, I've always enjoyed her storytelling.

    Any additional comments?

This series is a great middle of the road story- it doesn't reach out and grab you and make you want to stay up till 4am so you can finish it- but it is compelling enough that I look forward to the next one in the series.

The trouble with humans is that they're far too sensitive. Forget you put a woman in the local jail for a few months - and she takes it so personally! Absolutely! G A Aiken always delivers awesome heroines with sassy mouths, lots of backbone, all the back story in place- she writes awesome stories! And now I have to wait FOREVER for my next fix! Groan!

What other book might you compare Light My Fire to and why?

The other series that G A Aikens alter-ego Shelley Laurence writes. This would include the shifter series as well as the Crow and Raven novel. I love this woman's books no matter what she calls herself.

Have you listened to any of Morgan Hallett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to the recordings of the other two books in this series- and I enjoyed them- but in this one she dropped the ball in the pronunciation of some of the Gaelic names- which she had pronounced properly before. For instance Gleanna is pronounced 'Y-lana' not 'Glee-ana'. There were other similar errors. Her Slavic accent could have been more definitive and consistant-though perhaps it was done so that it was easier to understand. She is still a pretty good narrator, though.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but life insists on interfering with my plans.

    Any additional comments?

I love anything written by G A Ailken/Shelley Laurence. I'd love to see more audiobooks written by her and would buy them in a heartbeat.

Tired of the usual dating scene, Savannah Lisander, part human, part dragon, is skeptical that she'll ever find her souler. Then she meets a set of triplets who blow her mind and her heart. She's dated a fireman like Eli Cattaneo before, fiery in bed with a gentle soul; no biggie, she can easily handle his type. Or a high-roller investment banker like Zach, who knows every sexy trick known to mankind to make a woman swoon in ecstasy. Or even a Dominant who doesn't take no for answer, like Diego, owner of a sex club in Soho. But to have the three at the same time?

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Better story, better dialogue, better narrator.

What was most disappointing about Lizzie Lynn Lee’s story?

She couldn't make up her mind if she was going to be raunchy or not. No commitment to a style.

How could the performance have been better?

Get rid of that narrator altogether. She was horrible.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Dragon Kin?

I would have revamped the entire story for better continuity and a commitment to a style.

    Any additional comments?

I'll never read or listen to anything from this author or narrator again- particularly the narrator. She is the kiss of death to a story.
