I rarely write reviews, but I am compelled to help this book achieve even higher status. "The name of the Wind: Kingkiller Chronicles, Day 1" is astoundingly good. As many of the other reviewers have said, it does get off to a very slow start and Mr. Rothfuss seems obsessed with making sure we know and understand his worlds' currency system, but those are my only (and very minor) complaints. Once the book gets up to speed I dare you to stop listening for more than a day. Buy this book, you won't regret it!

The first thing you'll notice in this audiobook is obviously the narration. For this one aspect alone I would have never bought this book. Mr. Marsters has three settings, "talk in a gravelly monotone", "make a random disgusting mouth/saliva noise" and "sigh heavily into the mic". If you're used to amazing narration like that found in the "Wheel of Time", you should click back on your browser now.

Secondly, the story line is decent but this is more detective mystery than sci-fantasy. If you're looking for cool wizard stuff from a hero who can give it as well as he takes it, look elsewhere. The hero is a grumpy crotchety man who gets beat up a lot. Not my style.
