Watch out - the Earth just fell into a dark sun's orbit! Or maybe you'd rather visit a theme park called Hell? These are just two of the strange and unnerving tales you'll find in this collection of great science fiction and fantasy stories.

Noah says: "Cute stories, clunky format"
    "Worth double the price"
    Overall

This is a rare collection of science fiction stories, and the readers are great! I recommend this collection to anyone who enjoys being entertained by great fiction.

Very early, 4:45, on a bitterly cold Minnesota morning, three big men burst through the door of a hospital pharmacy, duct-tape the hands, feet, mouth, and eyes of two pharmacy workers, and clean the place out. But then things swiftly go bad, one of the workers dies, and the robbers hustle out to their truck-and find themselves for just one second face-to-face with a blond woman in the garage: Weather Karkinnen, surgeon, wife of an investigator named Lucas Davenport.

    Erin says: "Entertaining & Edgy"
    "John Sandford rules"
    Overall

Like many John Sandford fans, I've read or listened to (or both) all of the Prey books. I love the story lines, and Richard Ferrone IS Lukas Davenport - no one else could read these books as well. Storm Prey is right up there with the best. Now I have to wait another year for another Lukas Davenport novel!

Burned-out Hollywood screenwriter Bo Aikens is fed up with life in Los Angeles. He heads out of the hustle and bustle of the big city and arrives in picturesque Black River in Northern California, seeking relaxation and artistic inspiration. In small, idyllic Black River nearly everyone is happy, contented, and welcoming of strangers. But despite the beautiful setting, Bo begins to feel unsettled after several disturbing incidents.

    Lance says: "Brick + Koontz=Fantastic!"
    "Awesome!"
    Overall

This is a most excellent story. It ranks way up there with the best that Koontz has ever written. I have this story on my iPod because I intend to hear it again and again. What a great tale!

A mysterious alien presence unexpectedly bursts out of sacred sites all over the world and begins to rip human souls from their bodies, plunging the world into a chaos it has never before known. Courage meets cowardice; loyalty meets betrayal as an entire world struggles to survive this incredible end-all war. Heroes emerge, villains reveal themselves, and in the end, something completely new and unexpected happens that at once lifts the fictional characters into a new life and sounds a haunting real-world warning for the future.

    Patrick says: "Meh..."
    "A slow read"
    Overall

This book would be better if it were condensed, maybe even a lot. For me, it is a slow read - I'm having a difficult time staying interested. In fact, I have listened to seven other books while still trying to finish this one.

A storm struck on the night Laura Shane was born, and there was a strangeness about the weather that people would remember for years. But even more mysterious was the blond-haired stranger who appeared out of nowhere - the man who saved Laura from a fatal delivery. Years later - after another bolt of lightning - the stranger returned.

Barry says: "One of Koontz' best, entirely enjoyable."
    "One of my all-time favorites"
    Overall

I read this book right after it came out and read it again in the 90s. It is absolutely one of my favorite books ever - I wish I could give it even more stars. What a story! And now I can listen to it any time I want. Christopher Lane did a great job narrating the book too.

Things are finally looking up for defense attorney Mickey Haller. After two years of wrong turns, Haller is back in the courtroom. When Hollywood lawyer Jerry Vincent is murdered, Haller inherits his biggest case yet: the defense of Walter Elliott, a prominent studio executive accused of murdering his wife and her lover. But as Haller prepares for the case that could launch him into the big time, he learns that Vincent's killer may be coming for him next.

    "Better than Lincoln Lawyer"
    Overall

Though I didn't care much for Lincoln Lawyer, a book about the same character, I enjoyed this book. It moved faster and kept me interested. I was pleased that Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch finally discussed how they were related.

Amy Redwing has dedicated her life to the Southern California organization she founded to rescue abandoned and endangered golden retrievers. Among dog lovers, she's a legend for the risks she'll take to save an animal from abuse. Among her friends, Amy's heedless devotion is often cause for concern. To widower Brian McCarthy, whose commitment she can't allow herself to return, Amy's behavior is far more puzzling and hides a shattering secret.

Fred says: "Dean's got his groove back"

This is a pretty good read and I recommend it to my friends who also read Dean Koontz novels. After I got into the book, I couldn't have put it down ... I just had to know how everthing turned out. I'm sure I'll listen to it again next year.

Heidi Bradshaw is wealthy, beautiful, and well-connected - and she needs Spenser's help. In a most unlikely request, Heidi, a notorious golddigger recently separated from her latest husband, recruits the Boston P.I. to accompany her to her private island, Tashtego, for her daughter's wedding. Spenser is unsure of what his role as personal bodyguard will entail, but he consents when it's decided that he can bring his beloved Susan Silverman along.

    "Another Tale about Spencer"
    Overall

This is another great tale about the adventures of Spencer and his friends, but this one had some real surprises in it. Robert B Parker hasn't run out of sticky situations for Spencer to get into, nor has he run out of tricky ways for Spencer to get back out of trouble. A fun tale.

Engineered in a lab, Shawna Birdette isn't considered a real human - she's part of an elite army, created when Earth picked up a threatening alien radio signal from within our solar system. When the signal doesn't repeat, only Shawna and a small team remain active; the rest are placed in long-term hibernation.

    Overall

I have read about 35 Dean Koontz books; some I really liked (Lightning) and some I didn't care for (Tick Tock). This book is okay, entertaining enough, but not as good as many of Koontz' other books.
