I find it hard to give a four rating for a book that is simply enjoyable and well written as a book should be from a writer as prolific as Hill. Just as I find it hard to give a 2 for a book that is just okay.
This story was better than average, well written with fleshed out characters and a good not overly obvious plot. I never drifted off, but never found myself blocking everything out and listening until I absolutely had to pause. I would definitely recommend the book and will try others in the series.
Not a lot of substance, but not gloomy and dark either. I am seriously getting tired of the depressing one note bleakness in mystery right now and found this a refreshing change. Doesn't take a lot of energy to focus on like a good beach book. Funny without being too silly.
Someone told me not to be a sci fi snob and I'm not, I enjoy fantasy reading, loved the artemis fowl series as I read them to my children. I just don't enjoy the monster djour genre and ridiculous sex scenes for the sake of sex. (Whew defensive much) If it's well written I'm almost always entertained.
I enjoyed the book even though its a teany little bit derivative of xmen in my opinion, it does seem plausible. The characters were well written, the story was fast paced, there was action, humor, a little love interest, but not sickening sex scenes.
By that I mean the positive attitude and it was absolutely entertaining.
I was looking for something a little less dark and depressing. It seems most mystery writers right now are a writing from bleakness. Even with tragedy every day life if rarely so black.
This was refreshing, funny, historical, a little bit of an intelligent Forest Gump. If you like history and being reminded life doesn't have to suck all the time, give it a shot. In my humble opinion worth the price of admission.
Recommended by a fellow mystery reader who told me not to be a snob about the title (smile). The book was a nice surprise with respect to a fresh idea. However, the content is a little disturbing. Nothing that hasn't been in the news in some way shape or form. I was a bit put off by the language probably because it centered on young tweens.
Overall a well written suspense/thriller not your same old serial killer story.
Offbeat, dry humor, great looping interlacing stories. I immediately bought all avaliable audio and written. Not typical, but in my opinion very good, almost great.
Enjoyable listen, template type mystery. Worth the credit if you like the tough hero type with lots of gun play and bad guys.
I felt it was worth the credit, but not anything outstanding.
I like the writer but do find the over descriptive violence a little disturbing. The story wasn't predictable, limited suspension of reality, varied well written characters.
I enjoy these stories even if they are a little cheesy, the procedurals are better than most. This was different from the usual fare not as amusing, but still decent. I'm happy to say a lot less silly sex scenes.
Held my attention from start to finish, first book in a while. Well written, no clichés and didn't get predictable.
The story was okay, the vehicle a little dented and used , but well written and decent listen for the credit.
