"Insightful and harrowing"
This book dispels the myths about school shootings and goes to the heart of the social-psycho conditions that caused the Columbine massacre.
As you may have guessed, it isn't the bullied kid that snaps, it is the kid who does the bullying who plans additional horror. Of course, the situation is much more complicated than that and Dave Cullen gently guides you through the mayhem.
Don Leslie's reading is at times urgent, cold, calculating, angry, sad, and clinical. The reading evokes the emotions of the situation and it enhances the listening experience.
A good companion piece to this audiobook is "The Sociopath Next Door"
"Stereotypes enforced"
Rape scenes, cat stoning, torture, the nemesis is a disfigured woman, the heros are physical specimens of beauty and/or strength. Ah well, a sign of the times maybe? John Lee is the saving grace of the Pillars, but I don't think that I will give Ken Follet another try.
"Poor Quality Recording"
There are a few knocks, and street noise on the recording, you can also occassionaly hear a page turn. All of these noises are irregular, inconstant and not that distracting, but they should not be there at all.
Regarding the content of the book, most of the concepts have been popularized so if you have been watching Nova or other science shows on cable, then most of this will not be new.
