One summer weekend in 1949 - but not our 1949 - the well-connected "Farthing set", a group of upper-crust English families, enjoy a country retreat. Lucy is a minor daughter in one of those families; her parents were both leading figures in the group that overthrew Churchill and negotiated peace with Herr Hitler eight years before....

Where does Farthing rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    in the top 20

What did you like best about this story?

the choices Carmichael is forced into. The cold comfort of being right, is often the choice you can not have but it's life. Sometimes we can never really see a true hero

What does John Keating and Bianca Amato bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

the nuances of the British speech and attitudes are essential for the story I think.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I can't think of a good one except maybe. The evil that happens when GOD blinks.

    Any additional comments?

nicely written and chilling book. The "what might have happened" type of WWII police mystery that pulls in all directions. Makes me want to thank all that are left of the WWII survivors. Freedom is never free.

With chaos brewing, the governor calls upon Jamie Fraser to unite the backcountry and safeguard the colony for King and Crown. But from his wife, Jamie knows that three years hence the shot heard round the world will be fired, and the result will be independence, with those loyal to the King either dead or in exile. And there is also the matter of a tiny clipping from The Wilmington Gazette, dated 1776, which reports Jamie's death, along with his kin.

    Overall

I have enjoyed all of the books in this series, but this last one (so far) is the best in my opinion. The characters are real the settings are realistic and the history is acutate. This is about the best evolving story in literature today. I am never disappointed in this author's books and I pray she never stops writing.
