I'm half way through and still waiting for this to get good. I've listened to Cynster novels before and they are light listening with good romance and an interesting plot..until now. Stephanie Laurens thinks there is something romantic about a man who will screw anything in a skirt without a backwards glance..until he gets married and this is no exception except there is no plot. If you are looking for a book with detailed sex and lots of nonsense in between this book is for you. I will leave work for my 30 minute commute and they are having sex and still having sex when I get home. I already know how this book will end (they are all the same and that's OK) but there is nothing happening in between. Unfortunately, the only meat in this book is his. Incidentally, how could Giles think Francesca is a gypsy when she is living in the house, wearing expensive clothes and riding the horses in the stable. Please!!! Don't waste your time.
The narration was terrible but even if it wasn't this book wasn't even close to enjoyable. Anyone who likes books where something always "almost" happens but never does will love this one. It's one of those books where you sit through the whole thing waiting for it to get good and it never does. The author spent way too much time describing what everyone was wearing and what they ate including who boiled the water and who cut the onions. I can't count how many times during the entire book that I said to myself, "Who cares!"
I bought this book b/c I've lived in Michigan my whole life and am very familiar with the remoteness of the UP. I thought this would be a book about troubled teens using their street skills to survive in a harsh, hostile, wilderness situation. Anyone who enjoys stories about adults, teens and potentially a little baby being tortured, roasted and eaten alive in very graphic detail will love this book. Anyone who loved the movie Hostel and watched all the sequels will love this book. If you did NOT enjoy the movie Hostel or watch any of the sequels b/c of that, do not waste your credit on this book. You will have nightmares like I did.
I had been looking for something that addressed GOT philosophy and themes and this book fit the bill. It is a collection of summaries by different authors about various characters and themes in the books. It was written after the first HBO season and after all 5 books had been written so spoiler alerts are included in the foward. Although the narrator was a little monotone at times, it didn't take away from the viewpoints of the authors. Some of the content could get a little dry esp the section on physicalism. Also, you could totally tell the authors who had read all 5 books from the ones who had only watched the first HBO season. For example, one author referred to Sir Jorah Mormont fleeing Kings Landing for Bravos after the city was sacked by Robert Baratheon. That's totally not true. Sir Jorah was exiled from Bear Island by Eddard Stark after he captured some poachers and sold them to slavers for money. Also, one of the authors kept calling Stannis, Stanley. Otherwise, this book was well worth listening to.
I also bought this book b/c of the hype. After 6 hours of listening I was bored out of my gourd. I never heard a narration that was truly awful until this book. I could have done a better narration A virgin at 22 I can maybe believe in a book but one who has never given herself an orgasm? Sorry! Not even in a book could that ever happen. The main female was whiny, wimpy and without one redeeming character value. I've met 5th graders more mature than her. I suffered through the first part of this book and for the first time in my years of listening to audio books I skipped to the last chaper to find out why she leaves him and I didn't miss a thing. I don't need to listen to the whole thing. Besides If I heard her say "Oh my!" one more time I was going to puke. It's interesting that I sat through the "rules" at the beginning, she was reading the "rules" when I skipped to the last chapter, then I had to sit through the "rules" again before the last chapter was over. I was starting to think something was wrong with me b/c I hated everything about this book when so many people in my life were raving about it. I'm glad I didn't suffer through the whole thing. I want my credit back.
