Subtitled "Memoirs of a Navy Seal", Captain Robert A. Gormly tells his amazing story as the leader of the US Navy SEALs, taking us into the night, into the water and into battle on some of the most hair-raising missions ever assigned. Rising through the chain of command within the SEALs from platoon leader to commanding officer, Gormly's journey began with a chance meeting on a Virginia beach.....

    "Good listen"
    Overall

This was an excellent book about UDT and SEALS despite the poor narration. Besides mispronunciations, noises in the background, and a rather dull reading voice it still managed to be a good book. This is an interesting counter-point to Richard Marcinko's accounts on the same subject.

In a steel-and-lead-encased bunker 20 feet below the basement level of his house, a soldier waits for his final orders. On the surface, a plague ravages the planet, infecting over 90% of the populace. The bacterium burrows through the brain, destroying all signs of humanity and leaving behind little more than base, prehistoric instincts. The infected turn into hyper-aggressive predators, with an insatiable desire to kill and feed. Someday soon, the soldier will have to open the hatch to his bunker, and step out into this new wasteland, to complete his mission....

Would you consider the audio edition of The Remaining to be better than the print version?

Don't know, only did the audio edition.

What did you like best about this story?

Interesting story premise, the level of detail and character development.

What does Christian Rummel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He does an excellent job with the voices and building in depth and drama.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes

    Any additional comments?

Excellent book, Could not stop listening. I am not a big fan of the whole "Zombie Apocolypse" craze, I love a good action/thriller and this entire series doesn't disappoint!

The 75th Ranger Regiment is a unique and distinct culture among the American military establishment. They stand alone, even among our other Special Operations forces, as the most active brigade-sized force in the current Global War on Terrorism. Since 9/11, the Regiment has been the only continuously engaged unit in the Army, and has had 40 percent of its number deployed in harm's way for the last decade. Their mission is unique. Rangers do not patrol, they don't train allied forces, nor do they engage in routine counterinsurgency duties. They have a single-mission focus.

If you could sum up Sua Sponte in three words, what would they be?

    Very VERY thorough

How could the performance have been better?

The tone and tempo of the narrator reminds of the 40's and 50's. Seems very artificial and uptight. Needs to be more relaxed and flowing.

    Any additional comments?

Tons of great history. I think I was looking at a more entertaining look at the Rangers, stories, etc. This was a very ra-ra-ra cheerleading piece and as the other reviewer mentioned, a great recruiting book.

    Overall

This book content-wise was kinda cool.
Narration sucked rocks! This guys cannot keep his character voices straight and accents were pretty bad.
Compound that with a VERY slow moving book and this makes for a tedious listen. I have been trying to finish it but after 12 hours I am having a hard time.
I know this author is good, I have read his stuff before. it just felt like he was trying too hard to draw this one out.

I get excessively drunk at inappropriate times, disregard social norms, indulge every whim, ignore the consequences of my actions, mock idiots and posers, sleep with more women than is safe or reasonable, and just generally act like a raging dickhead. But, I do contribute to humanity in one very important way: I share my adventures with the world."

This has got to be easily the funniest book I have ever read!
Yeah his narration style is annoying to say the least but I don't think anyone but the author could have done it justice.
Profane...yes, sexist...doesn't even come close to describing his degradation of women. This book was a guilty pleasure and extremely entertaining!!!

This book was great. Definitely get the unabridged version of this title.
The only part of this book I did not enjoy at all was the narration. He has got to be one of the most dull, monotone narrators ever!

I cannot get enough of Demille's work and Brick's narration. A great story with one heck of a twist. I found myself once again circling the block or siting in the parking lot to hear what happened next.
