"Another great Virgil Flowers story!"
The setting in MN is done perfectly. I feel like i know Virgil.
Mad River
Davenport
It builds tension and get the heart racing
"Love Virgil Flowers!"
Absolutely. Eric Conger makes them all live.
Virgil. "That fucking Flowers", as his associates call him!
Alma's last scene. Don't want to spoil.
When is Sandford doing another one? I have them all.
"Lots of talk, little action"
Whereas I think I'd very much enjoy Isabel Dalhousie as a friend or tea companion, she is somewhat lame as an amateur Private Investigator. I have a minor in philosophy and a law degree, and I understand her many, many philosophical and ethical references very well. From a standpoint of the story, there are TOO many, and many of them are not really pertinent. That a woman of that maturity and sophistication does not seem to understand the emotional drives of herself or the people around her strains credulity as well. I've very much enjoyed McCall Smith in other works, particularly the "Ladies Detective Agency" series set in Botswana. I'd enjoy Isabel more with less meandering philosophy and more action. The actress, Davina Porter, who narrates is spot on.
Not enough resolution.
Her wide range of marvelous accents!
Maybe. A scriptwriter would tighten it up. I doubt most of Hollywood would get most of the what Isabel's talking about without their Wikipedia, anyway!
"Amazing story"
I listen usually to fiction; this is non-fiction. It is an incredible and spiritual experience, just to listen to it. I have a daughter and son-in-law who are neurologists, MDs who are specially trained in the brain, like Dr. Alexander except their specialty is the chemistry, not the surgery, so I am keenly aware of the training they all had. His training makes his insights on this all the more credible. And it makes it all more amazing. I would recommend it to anyone, of any background, and intend to share it with many members of my family.
Probably his analysis in the Appendix of the things that his experience cannot be because of the non-functioning of his neo cortex during the time of his illness.
Himself.
Same as the title.
I would be interested to know how the books does; it was just released two months ago.
"Intereting premise"
I'd recommend this to someone who enjoys supernatural stories
Good sex scenes
Fun descriptions of the ghosts who hang around her apartment continuously.
Good job portraying her problems relating to normal people with varying results; Cookie and her, dad, versus her stepmom and some of her uncles colleagues.
Sometimes, her independent chick voice gets a little too much. She's 27, not 15, and this isn't her first trip out. It can get in the way of the story. The whole reason for her existence is deliberately unclear at this point, but I could easily lose interest if I have to listen to too much cutesy.
"Magical Burke"
Yes. This is great to read, but to listen to Will Patton act it is a rare pleasure. Add Burke's plotting and ethereally beautiful writing and it is wonderful to experience.
The way it kept surprising us with twists of plot.
Clete Purcell, but it's a hard choice.
Robicheaux's recovery.
