  • Undead and Undermined

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 28 mins)
    • By MaryJanice Davidson
    • Narrated By Nancy Wu
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

New York Times and USA Today best-selling author MaryJanice Davidson’s tales featuring Vampire Queen Betsy Taylor are a perfect blend of humor, horror, and high fashion. In this 10th installment, Betsy finds herself puzzling over an unusual predicament. As the Vampire Queen, she believes she cannot die. So when she wakes in the morgue, it’s a bit confusing. Could it have something to do with her recent time-traveling excursion, or has a wicked enemy emerged who could be the end of Betsy once and for all?

    Laura says: "Utterly Disappointing"
    "Really not impressed"

I have read all the books in this series. The first five books were cute and I thought they were good "no-brainer" books. However, each book just drives home how self-centered Betsy is. It becomes annoying and I can't seem to stomach it anymore. I think that I won't be reading anymore of this series unless there just aren't any other books to choose from that interest me. I'm not into books where characters take pride in being stupid. Betsy seems to do just that and it's rather obnoxious. Since when has being self-centered and stupid something to strive for??

  • Witchful Thinking: A Jolie Wilkins Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 41 mins)
    • By H. P. Mallory
    • Narrated By Allyson Ryan
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Jolie thinks she’s seen it all, but life continues to spring surprises. The latest shocker? She’s just been crowned Queen of the Underworld. Jolie may possess a rare gift for reanimating the dead, but she doesn’t know the first thing about governing disparate factions of supernatural creatures. She can barely maintain order in her own chaotic personal life, which is heading into a romantic tailspin.

Melody says: "Need to start with the first book"
    "Good Series"
    Any additional comments?

I like this series but this book really spent a lot of time summarizing what the previous two books in the series covered. The first hour and a half of the book didn't really introduce anything new. A little background information is okay but you shouldn't have to spend the first hour and a half recaping what happened in the previous books.

  • Second Grave on the Left: Charley Davidson, Book 2

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 30 mins)
    • By Darynda Jones
    • Narrated By Lorelei King
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When Charley is rudely awakened in the middle of the night by her best friend who tells her to get dressed quickly and tosses clothes out of the closet at her, she can’t help but wonder what Cookie’s up to. Leather scrunch boots with a floral miniskirt? Together? Seriously? Cookie explains that a friend of hers named Mimi disappeared five days earlier and that she just got a text from her setting up a meet at a coffee shop downtown....

Connie says: "LOVE LOVE LOVE these books!"
    "Love It"

I love this series. It's funny! The author has a similar writing style to Janet Evanovich although she has a supernatural spin on her story. I love stories with random funny bits added in it; makes it a little more entertaining. I would recommend it.

  • Unholy Ghosts: Downside Ghosts, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 10 mins)
    • By Stacia Kane
    • Narrated By Bahni Turpin
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In a future world under attack from the undead, the powerful Church of Real Truth, in charge since the government fell, has sworn to reimburse citizens being harassed by the deceased. Consequently, there are many false claims of hauntings from those hoping to profit. Enter Chess Putnam, a fully-tattooed witch and freewheeling ghost hunter. She’s got a real talent for nailing human liars and banishing the wicked dead.

    T. Hernandez says: "Not for the faint of heart"
    "Not a fan"

For one, the book is progressing very slowly. I like a bit faster paced book. This might sound silly since paranormal novels tend to be well...not normal but I like paranormal novels that seem to be set in a more present world setting. This book is set in a future world which I'm not a fan of. I can usually get over this aspect but I'm also not a fan of the heroine being a drug user and associating herself with drug pushers and pimps. I know everyone had their vices but this is a bit too much for me when it directly involves the main character that is being portrayed as the heroine. Something that is annoying to me personally is the use of a lot of slang. It always makes me feel like the person is really lazy and uneducated. I know this isn't always the case but it still bothers me and a lot of the secondary characters seem to use it. I won't be finishing this book let alone moving on to the next book in the series.
