  • Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs)
    • By Anthony Bourdain
    • Narrated By Anthony Bourdain
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In the 10 years since his classic Kitchen Confidential first alerted us to the idiosyncrasies and lurking perils of eating out, much has changed for the subculture of chefs and cooks, for the restaurant business and for Anthony Bourdain. Medium Raw explores those changes, tracking Bourdain's strange and unexpected voyage from journeyman cook to globe-traveling professional eater and drinker, and even to fatherhood. Bourdain takes no prisoners as he dissects what he's seen.

    Sparkly says: "Surprisingly tender."
"Bourdain is funny, and full of Love for food!!!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Medium Raw to be better than the print version?

yes, it is great to hear Bourdain's own voice describing each meal.

What did you like best about this story?

The chapter where He describes the foods from arround the world. It made me hungry for each one of those dishes. I have only been to a couple of those countries myself, and have only tried a few of those dishes, but the vivid way he describes each one of them really took me back to those places, and I am eager to try the ones I have not yet tried.

What does Anthony Bourdain bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

You can taste the food in his voice!!! I know it sounds silly, but really, as he describes each dish, you can just feel his love for food.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, however, I repeated one of the chapters a couple of times. It was great.

  • Dark Alliance: The CIA, the Contras, and the Crack Cocaine Explosion

    • UNABRIDGED (20 hrs and 27 mins)
    • By Gary Webb
    • Narrated By Christian Rummel

In July 1995, San Jose Mercury-News reporter Gary Webb found the Big One - the blockbuster story every journalist secretly dreams about - without even looking for it. A simple phone call concerning an unexceptional pending drug trial turned into a massive conspiracy involving the Nicaraguan Contra rebels, L.A. and Bay Area crack cocaine dealers, and the Central Intelligence Agency.

Mystery Reader says: "Fascinating and complicated story"
    "Great book"

Great book truly informative, and eye opening. To the author in the chance you ever read this. Thank you for your hard work. The truth does matter, and you are not alone.

  • The Slow Regard of Silent Things: Kingkiller Chronicle, Book 2.5

    • UNABRIDGED (3 hrs and 39 mins)
    • By Patrick Rothfuss
    • Narrated By Patrick Rothfuss
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Deep below the University, there is a dark place. Few people know of it: a broken web of ancient passageways and abandoned rooms. A young woman lives there, tucked among the sprawling tunnels of the Underthing, snug in the heart of this forgotten place. Her name is Auri, and she is full of mysteries. The Slow Regard of Silent Things is a brief, bittersweet glimpse of Auri’s life, a small adventure all her own. At once joyous and haunting, this story offers a chance to see the world through Auri’s eyes. And it gives the reader a chance to learn things that only Auri knows.... In this book, Patrick Rothfuss brings us into the world of one of The Kingkiller Chronicle’s most enigmatic characters. Full of secrets and mysteries, The Slow Regard of Silent Things is the story of a broken girl trying to live in a broken world.

    Josh says: "But No...."
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

if he did what he had done in the previous books

Has The Slow Regard of Silent Things turned you off from other books in this genre?

    maybe from this author, yes.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Patrick Rothfuss?

What character would you cut from The Slow Regard of Silent Things?

characters are not the problem here. and since their is basically just one, but she is lovely

    Any additional comments?

I am sorry about this review, I know how hard it must be to hear negative reviews from someone that is not a writer, or an expert in the English language. but that is most listeners!!!
Your first two books where amazing and although it was a bit of a long wait I thought it would be worth it, but it was not. I am not criticizing your writing style, we get that you are a good writer, but stuff like this can only be pulled off by Hemingway (the old man and the sea) where there is not much of a story but he still fulfills the reader with his narratives. Mr. Rothfuss we met you as a great story teller, at least that is what got me hook in your books. this was not that...
