Just after midnight, a snowstorm stops the Orient Express dead in its tracks in the middle of Yugoslavia. The luxurious train is surprisingly full for this time of year. But by morning there is one passenger less. A "respectable American gentleman" lies dead in his compartment, stabbed a dozen times, his door locked from the inside.... Hercule Poirot is also aboard, having arrived in the nick of time to claim a second-class compartment - and the most astounding case of his illustrious career.

What did you love best about Murder on the Orient Express?

    the author

What did you like best about this story?

    entertainment

What does David Suchet bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    dramatization

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    no--occasional chuckles

    Any additional comments?

Suchet is a little too dramatic in his readings. Some of his voice changes for different characters are painful to the ear (too loud/emphatic). Hugh Fraser reads better.

Everyone fell under the spell of Jimmy Sutane, the charming and talented song-and-dance man. Everyone, that is, except the spiteful practical joker who put a pin in his stick of grease-paint and pasted 'Last Week' over the 'House Full' notices. Nothing too deadly. But as soon as Albert Campion is called in to investigate, people begin to die, and there's no shortage of suspects when the first victim's death is so convenient for so many.

This is one of her best books. It is a pity the recording was abridged, so that some of the best parts were omitted!

Would you listen to Died in the Wool again? Why?

yes--after I had forgotten the plot. It is beautifully written with well-developed, believable characters and memorable descriptions of New Zealand.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Somewhat. It isn't a thriller, wasn't written as such.

What about Wanda McCaddon’s performance did you like?

    It was ok.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The descriptions of the high country.
