In this business parable, Alex Rogo is the manager of a failing manufacturing plant who receives an ultimatum from corporate headquarters: turn the situation around in three months or the plant will be scrapped. With help from a mysterious mentor, Rogo discovers a revolutionary new way to do business - a way for people in any field of endeavor to increase productivity, profitability, and personal fulfillment.

I purchased this book because it is required reading material for my Operations Management class. Unfortunately, I rarely have extra time to read books with a normal schedule, and this happens to be for an extremely shortened summer class! I was thrilled to find The Goal available here so I can make better use of the 2 hours a day spent in my car driving to work and finish this material before my final exam.

I am halfway through now, and the only complaint I have is that the actors narrating the story sound a little too cheesy at times. When the cheesy voices are paired with a somewhat cheesy story, it's a little hard to take seriously at times. Some of the conversation just seemed so forced that I found myself thinking more about how awkward it sounded than actually listening to the story. Also (this may just be me) some of the voices were so similar at times in the back and forth conversation it was hard to follow what was going on.

Even after my small complaint, It's a great story (cheese and all). No matter what complaint I might find to make, it's still better than reading a standard textbook for a class. I'm sure I'll probably retain much more of what I learn from The Goal than I would from the textbook I have barely opened.

As for my complaint, I would be much better off reading the actual book because part of the reason I love to read is to be able to imagine what the characters look and sound like for myself, but that's a personal preference. Unfortunately, the time frame I have been given to finish this book won't allow for that.

Overall I give 4 stars for the audio version.
