Stone Barrington is called to Bel-Air to oversee an exclusive event that will gather the top echelons of the beau monde: Hollywood starlets, socialites, politicos, billionaires from overseas. It’s a task in which Stone has a personal stake, and one that is made all the more pleasurable - though somewhat more complicated - with the arrivals of two beautiful women with whom he’s intimately acquainted. But the grand occasion has also attracted a dangerous criminal group with sinister plans....

What disappointed you about Severe Clear?

The story was dull; it would have made a better short story. There was little suspense or action, unless you count the bedroom scenes. This was my first Stone Barrington novel and the author did little to help a newcomer grasp the character, it felt like I came into the movie theater late. Also, I still can't tell who the main character was, Stone, Holly, or the bad guys.

How could the performance have been better?

At first it was difficult telling the characters a part, the narrator did a poor job of distinguishing them, it's a good thing characters names were use often.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disappointment!

    Any additional comments?

I do not recommend this book.

An anonymous tip puts Bosch on a case that has remained unsolved for decades, the vicious stabbing of a teenage boy whose body was found in an abandoned Old Hollywood restaurant. Cold cases are often the toughest: With no body, no murder scene, and no fingerprints, Bosch nevertheless gets lucky when DNA evidence from the murder weapon points to a known killer. But the DA insists that science alone is not enough - he needs the case to be bulletproof before he'll take it to court.

Alan Gregory is a clinical psychologist with a thriving practice in Boulder, Colorado. His life begins to unravel when one of his female patients is found in an apparent suicide and the local paper begins printing accusations from an unnamed source of sexual impropriety between the woman and Dr. Gregory. He launches a psychological and personal quest for the truth that rapidly intensifies when more of his patients die untimely deaths, and Gregory suspects not only that the deaths are related but that another one of his patients may be somehow involved. Lacking facts but roused by suspicion and troubled by seemingly random acts of terror around him, Gregory starts to fear for the safety of the people he loves. The question of the inviolability of confidential disclosures made to Gregory by his patients - privileged information - becomes crucial as the psychologist pursues an unsettling romance with Lauren Crowder, a lovely deputy district attorney investigating one of the deaths. Bound to silence, Gregory follows the psychological tracks of someone he fears may be a cunning and disturbed killer, while turning to his enigmatic but supportive partner, Diane Estevez, for counsel, and to his tart-tongued female urologist neighbor for support. The sinister, surprising drama unfolds against Boulder's Rocky Mountain backdrop, in the arresting natural beauty of Aspen, and in the midst of a baroque Halloween costume party in downtown Boulder. Finally, in a lonely mountain lodge enshrouded in menace, the story comes to its breathtaking climax.

Would you try another book from Stephen White and/or Dick Hill?

I'm not moved to buy another book by Stephen White, this is his first book in the series and since there are 19 more books, I'm going to assume some body liked them. I like Dick Hill but I don't think this was is best performance; yes I would try another book.

Would you ever listen to anything by Stephen White again?

I bought this book which is book 1 in the series, and the 2nd book at the same time, at some point I'll listen to the 2nd book, but if it doesn't improve I want listen to anything else.

What three words best describe Dick Hill’s voice?

    He's done better

What character would you cut from Privileged Information?

    All of them.

    Any additional comments?

Psychologist Alan Gregory is the dumbest educated character I've come across. I figured out what was happening way ahead of him.

Kent Anthony is a brilliant software engineer who is cashing in on a brilliant career. He's finally living the idyllic life, far from thoughts of theft and murder and other kinds of horrible criminal behavior. He's left his past far behind.... or so he thinks. This story will bring you face to face with a hidden world more real than most people ever realize; a world where the unseen is more powerful than anything seen.

Would you listen to Heaven's Wager again? Why?

Maybe, but I'm not usually driven to listen to a past read. I am going to complete the trilogy.

Which character – as performed by Tim Gregory – was your favorite?

    Kent Anthony

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No it wasn't, but I did make it a priority.

    Any additional comments?

I loved the journey of Kent Anthony's growth but it was his Mother-In-law's faith that moved me the most.

LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well, not since a shocking nighttime assault by unidentified men killed his partner, Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty - until he meets his new partner. Maggie is not doing so well, either. The German shepherd survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before she lost her handler to an IED and sniper attack, and her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s. What did you love best about Suspect?

Suspect pulled me in immediately, I listened to a free chapter and had to buy it. I loved the relationship between Scott and Maggie (a dog) and how they needed each other so much.

Have you listened to any of MacLeod Andrews’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, this is the first one.

Two brutal murders and millions of missing dollars in the growing UN/Iraq oil-for-food scandal have led Castillo and his team to an estancia in Uruguay, where the man they seek is murdered right before their eyes. Who is responsible? Most likely, the people higher up in the dirty-money chain - those willing to risk anything to keep their secrets from being revealed.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would spend a little less time reintroducing the characters in this series

What about Dick Hill’s performance did you like?

I've listened to books by other authors that were also narrated by Dick Hill and think he has excellent range, I can always distinguish his characters without any problems.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Yes, this is what I call a popcorn movie.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The ending; it felt incomplete and had unanswered questions. The epilogue which is intended to detail the fate of character was used instead as a tease to what's going to happen next. I prefer conclusions to my books when it involves the main character and was part of the main plot.

Also, the subplot about the main character's ward did nothing for the story except side track it, I was interested in the ward but it went no where, it had no real point to the story or none that I could see.

Would you be willing to try another book from Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston ? Why or why not?

This is my second Lincoln Child book and have no intension of buying another.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No.
