From #1 New York Times-best-selling author Nora Roberts comes a novel of a woman who needs nothing, a man who sees everything, and the web of deceit, greed, and danger that brings them together - and that could tear them apart… As a professional house-sitter and freelance writer, nothing ties Lila Emerson down - not her work, not a home, and definitely not a relationship. She spends her life moving from one job to the next, sometimes crashing at a friend 's Manhattan apartment. And though she can appreciate her clients ' extraordinary homes, their expensive collections, and their adorable pets, Lila has never longed for possessions of her own. Everything she has, including her heart, is portable.

I'm a big Nora Roberts fan and enjoyed this book greatly. I was not familiar with Julia Whelan's name, but will seek out her work now. She does male and female voices equally well, and has an easy voice to listen to.

A highly decorated captain in the U.S. Army, Luis Montalvan never backed down from a challenge during his two tours of duty in Iraq. After returning home, however, the pressures of his physical wounds, traumatic brain injury, and post-traumatic stress disorder began to take their toll. In constant physical pain, he soon found himself unable to climb a simple flight of stairs or face a bus ride to the VA hospital. He drank; he argued; he cut himself off from those he loved. Then Luis met Tuesday, a beautiful and sensitive golden retriever....

    Char says: "Very Good Book"

    Overall

Montalvan has written a captivating book that keeps me coming back for more. I wish every federal government official who is involved with deploying troops to Afghanistan and Iraq could read this. They need to understand what is happening to the men and women who are involved in the fighting!

    Excellent book! Very enjoyable listening!

But Step's new job with a software company turns out to be a snake pit, and 8-year-old Stevie's school is worse. This is my first exposure to Orson Scott Card. As a writer, I find his writing inspirational -- makes me want to stop reading and get back to writing. This book is a must-buy!
