"Deep, truth of humanity"
I would listen again in a couple of years. That means a lot because I like to experience books I have never read.
The narrator (author) is someone I relate to as I grew up during the same time, in Hyde Park. I remembered the forced buissing and shameful pbehavior of adults in the 70's. I remember the influx of Iranian exchange students in high school, then in college....and the predjudice.
HONEST, MEMORIES, YEARNING
The real 70's
I was thrilled the movie
"Had me screaming and kicking...hard to stop listen"
YES! If you like to think and look at all options..think you know what might happen and then Dan Simmons throws a curve ball everytime!.... you my friends will love this book.
Melony is the most horrific babyish insane mind vampire of the whole group. I loved the end when she is showing again her paranoia and hunger...and she thinks she is ALWAYS right...downright creepy.
Tough..loved Willie. He was almost as awful as Melony. Nina played a short wicked part but was forever the fear of Melanie. For evil I choose Melony.
Tough again. Sol's memories of the concentration camps..his whole life's purpose and internal struggles and all the wonderful people who came together with Sol to kill the minfmd vampires.
Natalie the "negress" and all the dated predjudiced terms I forgot I grew up with were reminders of what is always possible to happen again at any time.Hatred and evil has always been around and sorry to say will be. People who can manipulate and be charismatic are the true mind vampires that the author writes about. I believe using politicians..Hitler...and the holocaust are the perfect canvas for Dan Simmons to paint his "mind vampires" who are real but not in the supernatural way. That was just a tool for his novel...or a novel tool. :)
"dry old fashioned sci fi"
No
I would have made the main character less robotic. He was a human and the narrator's accent and tone made him a snobby robotic unlikable character.
The girl
Move on to a totally different book and narrator.
I love Asimov (30 yrs!) But won't get anymore audiobooks on Asimov from Audible
"Peaceful "Souls" from Outer Space Invasion"
I am enjoying both. I bought this on the Daily Deal forx1.99 and got the Audio from Audible for less than $4. Before this was so recently available I listened to the book I couldn't put down using my E-ink Kindle Keypad using "text to speech" I love this Audible awhyspersync option only when it's affordable. I would NEVER purchase the book and the audio if they were $8 for the book and. Over$10 for the Audio to waste my $15 monthly Audible credit. So thanks for getting together and making my raeding affordable and more enjoyable. Your company gets some $ I can afford..even if it's not what you'd normally charge. Some $ is better than no $ so I bet you are making a lot more money now than a year ago.
It reminds me of Body Snatchers (alien parasites) AND District 9 (predjudice against intelligent peacefully aliens.
Great descriptions of the mind talk/ memories and sharing between Wanderer and Melany.
I smiled often and thoroughly enjoyed it. It'd. Make a great movie.
Its much better than the atwilight Series.
"Interesting Futuistic BUT Confusing"
No. I have listened to lots of audiobooks and this isxvery difficult to follow. I rewound many times to better understand the storyline.
No. Forced myself through this book. Good story but not enjoyable to keep rewinding to follow. The names were very foreign sounding so very difficult to keep track of characters. Also crazy made up names for make believe genetically created animals..food and people...and gloomy.
Not really..no.
NO!
I couldn't wait to be done with the book so I could enjoy sn audiobook again.
"What is the Meaning of Life (for the main characte"
yes I would. It is entertaining, thought provoking without too much thinking.
It is similar to the author's way of writing of course, but different in that I found it an easier than usual read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had supernatural weirdness, but somehow in this novel it seemed normal.
Yes. I did not like his performance in this one as much as others I have heard. Maybe it was the material. I don't know.
The conversation in the beginning of the story that takes place in the new hotel but in the ghostly dimension of the old Dolphin hotel where a "ghost" that is like a guide advises the Narrator to "dance, dance, dance."
"Scary Lullaby"
Unexpected Romance Horror
Stephen King Books?
The nonchalant normalcy of the voice describing a horrific event of scene.
The The female realestate agent/witch (for me). There was a man equally memorable and then 2 more characters just as memorable, but not having as much space as the primary couple.
Listen to this. I totally didn't expect what I got from the description OR from the first chapter even! Loved it and pleasantly surprised!!!
"STEVE MARTIN, LAUGH LAUGH LAUGH!!!"
Absoulutely! I brought me back to early Steve Martin (70's)! A laugh constantly.
Steve Martin
Steve Martin played himself!
Show reruns of old SNL like the Cruel Shoes and King Tut.
Best first listen and freebie!
"SERIOUS ASIAN HISTORICAL NOVEL, NO LAUGHS, SERIOUS"
Only someone who likes highly detailed serious historical novels about Asians. Otherwise, No!
Can't cause it would not be the same story. It has to be serious. I had to keep track of too many unpronouncable names,.....no fun and then keep track of who was honorable, dishonored, accepted by family, thrown out, who a woman must marry, what she wished instead, etc etc. etc.
boring
Shut it off. I forced myself to listen to almost half, stll didn't keep my interest. I found myself not losing myself in the story by rather thinking about what I needed at the market for food, ets.
I got my money back from Audible and it was an on sale book. I noticed the under $4.95 audiobooks do not pique my interest. I was new to that site and took a chance that despite the unthrilling description it would be good. I wasn't.
Thank you Audible for the refund.

"FUN TO DRIVE AND LISTENT TO"
Yes, it is fun and lighthearted. It made me laugh outloud
The first Wicked Book by Janet
The main character. She is so ditzy, I love the voice use by Lorelei.
the title of the book would be perfect
Light fun listening. A no brainer!
"FUN SUMMER READ, LIGHT ENTERTAINMENT"
The narrator sounds like Sookie in True Blood. I like how her voice takes you to characters, and I believe and feel the different personalities. Excellent to lose myself in the story. Excellent story telling and story teller
Tough, love them all..attracted to the Fairies, especially Bellanos, and his voice and the descriptions of him.
Her voice adds dimension to my imagination. The characters fill out more when I listen to this narrator and story compared to the times I have read books in this series on my own.
Yes but fortunately it was many hours so I cannot sit that long or have to commute that long so it took about a week. When in the car I listen to audiobooks. At home I read my books on my kindles. The keyboard Ereader is for the day(anti glare and text to speach is awesome). At night, I use the Kindle because the screen is lit up and I can make it easier on my eyes by changing how strong the background light is.
The perfect Kindle Fire will have text to speech, Eink like the originals, and a double camera with microphone! It is practically a tablet. I love the speed, the cloud, how easy it is. I compared this to other tablets and color readers and Amazon beats them all. I truly prefer the Kindle(Fire) to the I Pad!! The size is right and especially the price!
