All decent parents want to do what's best for their children. What Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother reveals is that the Chinese just have a totally different idea of how to do that. Western parents try to respect their children's individuality, encouraging them to pursue their true passions and providing a nurturing environment. The Chinese believe that the best way to protect your children is by preparing them for the future and arming them with skills, strong work habits, and inner confidence.

I loved listening to this book. Amy Chua did a fine job narrating but her story told through a mother's eyes was delightful. She gave a very good perspective on the expectations for families that have immigrated and explained how their work ethic is like none that I know. After reading this book, I have been enlightened and motivated to take some of her experiences with me and apply them. Amy Chua is talented and her family follows.

In the Fall of 2006, Dean Karnazes, known as "the Lance Armstrong of the running world", took on the ultimate challenge: running 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 consecutive days. Dean set off in a caravan packed with fellow runners, with nothing more than a roadmap and a determination that defied all physical limitations.

I enjoyed reading about Dean's endeavors through his eyes as a super athlete. He inspired me to take to the road when I lost motivation and am thrilled to know that his work has lead to more healthy habits. Please keep running Dean.
