The story and delivery of it by KH kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time

This cast series is my first on the genre and I'm swept away.

The intensity in which she delivers the story. The accents are great, distincts and characteristic. the emOtion with which she delivers the development of the love passages give me chills and I catch myself smiling with excitment sometimes.

Definitly. And almost did too. If basic necessity, like eating and sleeping, hadn't gotten in a way.

I wish they put out an ETA of the next books. I'm dying to know what with happen next.
My only issue with the stories is: even though there have been 6 books before this one after she became a private, the time line hasn't seem to progress. She is still 20yo and the stories always state that had only passed 7 years since she arrived at the tower. 6 books and 6 different stories that shows how much she has grown and learned. All of that happened within less than a year? I'd like to see her turn 21 (at least!)

I just finished this first book in the series and can't wait to start the next. I found it fast paced and elegantly executed. Butcher manages to build a vast and complex world with a long history and intricate politics, but never bogs down the story with minutia. Brilliantly done! Each character is so alive and passionate, that I found myself caring for the fates of each of them, including some of the villains! Kate Reading's performance was wonderful and she brought the entire thing to life! She embraced the uniqueness of each personality and is almost an entire cast unto herself! Bravo!

I am sad to say that it was Disappointing! I caught myself often drifting throughout the story and at the end of the book I felt it was just cut off, as if you had stopped at the end of a chapter in the middle of the book. I felt cheated! Even though I had known that the Author had split the book if felt just like that and I don't think it should have - I felt like she could have closed the book at least by a point where something was accomplished with relation to the journey. Maybe I am spoiled in the sense that all of the other cast books had a story that started and ended; and although the development of some characters in relation to the protagonist was present I felt like the protagonist herself didn't. She is still struggling with the same issues that was presented in the very 1st book. She has not evolved much and for this having been the 8th book I expected a little more. I was happy to learn more about Tela and what's behind the facade of such a strong character, a bit more of Nightshade was implied and I think it also gave a bit of understanding about his character.
I have to say I really like Michelle Sagara's style of writing (even though the over usage of "shrug" and "brown raising" started to get on my nerves a bit - might be a signature move within her writing but it's still annoying), the dialog is creative and the vocabulary very rich. However, Cast in Peril left a lot to be desired. Maybe it would not have been so bad if we could have gotten the entire story in one book instead of two.
I am debating whether to get Cast in Sorrow, which makes me bitter because I have been following this series and anticipating each book..

I found myself missing Khristine Hvam at every turn. Most of all at the voice of Grimalkin. One of the other reviewers mentioned that he moans a lot and it's true, kind of creepy really!. Ash's voice was way too mature and Puck's voice was missing the spice that made me enjoy his lines so much. I have to say that I had a hard time getting into the story because of the narrator. Maybe if the entire series was narrated by the same person I woudn't have felt so weird out.. changing narrators mid series really makes it less enjoyable.

I'm a big fan of Khristine Hvam's work. I'll buy just about anything that's got her name attached to it but this book didn't allow for her talent to shine through. I was both disappointed and bored! Story wise it didn't grab my attention much, I would drift off like a short attention span toddler and all to often had to rewind to listen to whole passages again to try and make sense of what I was hearing. I was absolutely annoyed at the parts with the "beast's" speach. A series of too many broken statemements (tiresome, boring, wanting to fast forward through the whole thing..). Usually I listen to whole books in a matter of a day or two but I have been dragging this one out for almost 3 weeks.. I just couldn't get into it.

Decidedly the best one yet! and I know I say this about every last one that comes out but.. Michelle fascinates me with the stories. Tying the lose ends from each book on the next and always leaving something to be wondered. I love it!!! I am definitely looking forward to the next one and excited to see what's gonna come of the new introduced character.

That it's going in a direction in which Kaylin's character is growing (though slowly - and this, in my opinion, due to the fact that not a lot of time passes between each book/story). I love that the main character's feelings are getting exposed and that there's indication something might happen in that aspect. I look forward to and hope for some

I've listened to all the cast books. I started with the Free novella, which is was a genius promoting idea, I might add! I would probably never thought of downloading these books if it wasn't for that. Once I did though, I was captivated by Khristine Hvam's voice and performance. The story was great and KH really brought it to life. I hope she narrates all of Michelle's books.. I will certainly by them all!

Absolutely!! Khristine Hvam makes the stories come alive and even though I read it in print I was just delighted to hear the sound of her voice - so distinct within each caracter. She is amazing!!

It was enjoyable to see the story coming together. For those who intend to listen to this book I suggest that they listen to the previous ones first. To include the novella (cast in moonlight), and definitely get this one.. it's a treat!!

It's hard to answer that question without giving away into a spoiler. But the one in which Kaylin finally seem to have forgiven Severn (during her test in the high halls).

Lots of passages made me laugh.. or at least smile. In specific the scenes with Lord Sanabalis and also the ones with Marcus in it. The scene that almost made me cry was at the end of the book. By the grave.

Love the dialogue. Michelle captivated my attention with all of the books in the cast series.

Superb delivery of the stories. I find myself looking for books in which Khristine Hvam is the narrator. I hope that she remains the narrator for all following books in this series..

It's a great story and it explains so much of some passages on the previous books. I read some reviews where it was said that there were holes in the plot line but I believe that if not intentional (as cliff hangers) this book covers a lot of the "unexplained things", specially regarding her 6 month absence between the fifs and the hawks. Get it! You won't be sorry! I can't wait to hear the next one. I could probably read it because they are available in print but it won't be the same as Khristine Hvam brings so much to the plate and delivery of the story.. so I will patiently wait (sighs)..

The book was super fun to listen to. A lot of twists, and curve balls throughout the entire story. Never unpredictable! There was a lot of gratuitous sex passages, I personally don't mind the discriptive sex passages but there were a LOT of them and after a while it felt like it was just pointless. The thing that made me give it a 4 star as opposed to 5 was: the writer went waaaaay past the end of the story. He had tied every loose end and could have ended at a good note but kept going and going until it was a bit exhausting. Funny thing is, he wrote it himself that the hardest part for a good artist is to know when to stop.. too bad he didn't!.

Not a JG's best. I took a while for the story to pick up and when it started getting exciting it ended. It felt like a lot of fluff to make the book achieve a certain number of pages. I gave it a 3 stars because it was passable, meaning, as a discounted book it was fine but I would definitly vote against paying full price for it.
