"An unexpected treat!"
At first this seamed an odd book, but it didn't long to hook me. The author knows a lot about food and science, and in this compendium he make learning fun, fun, fun! Maybe I'll have to try cooking some day :-)
"This book was exactly what I was hoping for!"
This isn't simply another book about memory tricks. It's a neat story about mastery of memory techniques, and a little bit about how the brain works. The story seamlessly runs all over the place, like interviewing the real rainman, and breaking through personal barriers by focused training. It was a very enjoyable story. And Mike's seamless narration felt like it was coming from the author.
"Very disappointing"
I won't claim I listened to the who thing. So maybe it got better after the first quarter. But I can tell you that the first quarter was a painful disappointment. The pacing is awful... I kept saying to myself... "I see exactly where this is going, now get to the point"... and on and on it went before it got to the point that I was expecting.
"Completely Satisfied... Please write another!"
Kim, er... I mean Dawn weaves another great tale. Rachel, er... I mean Alissa yet again does some wacky risky stuff that no one else on the planet can accomplish, an get herself in deep, deep trouble. The formula may sounds familiar to fans, but who cares. This is really great story line, with very imaginative and touching in parts in places. As always Marguerite does a spotless job bring this to life for the listener.
I do hope Dawn considers continuing this series. Might here be a "New Truth" in the future?
"Enjoyable to the last drop"
This book may not change the world, but it may just make you feel good about enjoying a couple of brews. Simply a fun, well read, good time. Cheers!
"This book's got everything!"
Exciting plotline, a homage to other sci-fi classics, and drop dead humor. I loved this through and though.
"Not nearly as great as the last three"
From the start this one didn't grab my attention for a long time. What did grab my attention was changes in the voice narration by Roy Dotrice. Sigh! Hopefully A Dance with Dragons will restore my faith
"Rachel, Kim & Marguerite still have it!"
Hard to believe I bought book 1 for my Daughter, only to get totally addicted myself. But somehow this crew still keeps me listening and happy after 10 books. It???s really only predictable in knowing that Rachel will do something incredibly risky and stupid to solve her problems. But that's where the entertainment lies.
It's well crafted nutty escapism at it's finest.
"Too much non-science for my taste."
I found myself rolling my eyes, quite a few times while listening to this. While talk of homeopathic succussion might be slightly interesting for a couple minutes, the author streched it out till it hurt. And he has an interesting take on cold fussion, but hardly a convincing story that anything about it was real. I found myself wanting to scream that scientists need to be held accountable for thier claims. If cold fusion appeared to happen, but could not be reliably reproduced, then that is what needs to be reported.
If the title of this book appeals to you, I'd recommend you check out "Quantum Theory Cannot Hurt You" or "Death by Black Hole".
"Great Entertainment"
I bought this book to listen with my teenage daughter, and I ended up loving it. The plotline always kept my interest, and it had really great humor thoughout. I thought the narration was absolutely superb - The voice for the character were perfect.
