Abi has spent her life in the shadow of her stunningly beautiful, glamorous older sister Cleo. Headhunted as model when she was 16, Cleo has been all but lost to Abi for the last 20 years, with only a fleeting visit or brief email to connect them. So when Abi is invited to spend the summer in Cleo's large London home with her sister's perfect family, she can't bring herself to say no. Maybe Cleo is finally as keen as Abi to regain the closeness they shared in their youth?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The Ugly Sister is a light read that deals with some very real choices people make in their lives. I appreciate the struggles the characters go through and the spots of humor thrown in there elicited more than one LOL from me.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters seemed very real. I have known people with these personalities and Jane Fallon nailed them!

Have you listened to any of Alison Reid’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to Alison Reid before The Ugly Sister. She did a fantastic job with the characters. They seemed to really fit the characters!

Who was the most memorable character of The Ugly Sister and why?

Abby was the most memorable character because her thoughts and actions stayed true to her character.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

Anastasia Burke says: "Hillenbrand could make even laundry fascinating!"

At the age of 22, Jennifer Worth left her comfortable home to move into a convent and become a midwife in postwar London’s East End slums. The colorful characters she met while delivering babies all over London - from the plucky, warm-hearted nuns with whom she lived to the woman with 24 children who couldn't speak English to the prostitutes and dockers of the city’s seedier side - illuminate a fascinating time in history.

Kathy says: "This is one I didn't want to put down!"

Would you listen to Call the Midwife again? Why?

No, the book doesn't flow well. The stories told jump from a summary type to details and flutter back and forth as well as past, present and future. The transitions could have been SO much smoother.

Has Call the Midwife turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No

Where does Can You Keep a Secret? rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Similar to Jane Fallon's Leaving Matthew and the Ugly Sister as well as the Bridget Jones books. If you liked any of the above you will surly like this one too!!

Which character – as performed by Kate Reading – was your favorite?

Kate Reading did such a fabulous job with each character, making it even easier to get lost in the story as l listened.
