I think the author was somewhat less inspired when writing this book - but that resulted in a more leisurely pace that I still enjoyed. There was more character development and background and less raw plot. I especially enjoyed that she branched out into Native American magic.
With previous books in the series I hated having to pause the playback when I got to work (I listen to and from work). With this book it was much easier to pause ... but I still liked the book a lot.
My only complaint is that that the author must have read earlier reviews about her stories being a little to PG (hard to believe with vampires running around, but true). At the end of the last book, and throughout this book, she tried to venture into an R rating ... but you could tell she was uncomfortable with it. I would have preferred continued discretion to the awkward introduction of more sex.
