My husband and I have a 30 yr strong marriage but it's had it's share of troubles. We went to counseling for a year and it was helpful, but I wish I'd had this book many years sooner. This book has been more insightful and helpful than counseling was. I can't wait to see how the next 30 years of marriage turns out.
The reader does a great job, I felt like I was in a conversation rather than a book. He is easy to listen to and punctuates very well.
I love Joni, but I highly disagree with her message in this one. my rating is not so much for the book but the message it contains.
Joni reads well but it did take me a little while to get her style even though I've listened to her many times before.
Thank you for writing what was on my heart, the questions I have, and giving such practical depth to Grace and the church.
Well read and kept my interest even for the style book it is. Many times Informational books are quite dull, not this one, it's very well read and an easy listen book. I wanted the hard copy though to catch all of the references.
I was very relieve to find this book as we left the traditional church several years ago in search of more depth and more "real" gospel. This book spoke what I was feeling and seeking and I was amazed that he knew just what we are going through....refreshing to find the answer to my nagging question. "is there more meaning to church? There's got to be more life and more depth!?!" There is...now it's about getting started with what God was already telling us.
I was very hesitant about this book because I had heard such criticism of the author and how he is quite liberal. I was worried that they may be a political agenda throughout the book. however, I was quite pleased to find that it is very historically correct and the author was very conscientious about his accuracy to detail and facts rather than his own opinion. It's well written and interesting. I was very happy with the book!
I was fascinated with the story dovetailing the different characters together and their lives, emotions and actions each thinking he was in the right and acting according to his own conscience. I'd never read much about Mrs. Lincoln and was interest in her piece of the story.
