Welcome to Ringworld, an intermediate step between Dyson Spheres and planets. The gravitational force created by a rotation on its axis of 770 miles per second means no need for a roof. Walls 1,000 miles high at each rim will let in the sun and prevent much air from escaping. Larry Niven's novel, Ringworld, is the winner of the 1970 Hugo Award for Best Novel, the 1970 Nebula Award for Best Novel, and the 1972 Ditmars, an Australian award for Best International Science Fiction.

Most people will either love or hate this book. Don't look for a great amount of action here. Listening to the book, it felt like I was watching an old Star Trek show. Lots of plodding along, semi-interesting technical ideas, and a lot of implausability. Not bad but not great either.

  • State of Fear

Once again Michael Crichton gives us his trademark combination of page-turning suspense, cutting-edge technology, and extraordinary research. State of Fear is a superb blend of edge-of-your-seat suspense and thought provoking commentary on how information is manipulated in the modern world.

    Overall

This book was incredibly slow and convoluted for about the first third. The author's body noises were nauseating. Make sure you check for the reader before ever buying another audio book. Left wingers will hate this book as it portrays environmentalists, the media, and Hollywood actors as idiots who care nothing for the truth. This book really seems to have been written by someone from right wing radio. And it stunk! Many details were left out. And the preaching got so bad, I had to turn it off at the end (and I even tend to agree with the author). Wish I could have rated this one a "zero".
