Shocking his stodgy colleagues at the exclusive Reform Club, enigmatic Englishman Phileas Fogg wagers his fortune, undertaking an extraordinary and daring enterprise to circumnavigate the globe in 80 days. With his French valet Passepartout in tow, Verne's hero traverses the far reaches of the earth, all the while tracked by the intrepid Detective Fix, a bounty hunter certain he is on the trail of a notorious bank robber.

Gary says: "Fabulous narration for Verne Classic"
"Just another Jules Verne new fan to his hordes"
    Overall

English is not my native language so even Jules Verne is new for me. Already listened a dozen of great novel books here and this is an juvenile classic. But I feel I just need much, much more Jules Verne to listen to. It's so gratifying it really renews one's mind with inspiration and adventure.

So when a family tragedy strikes, Julia returns to the tranquility of Wharton Park and its hothouse. Recently inherited by charismatic Kit Crawford, the estate is undergoing renovation. This leads to the discovery of an old diary, prompting the pair to seek out Julia's grandmother to learn the truth behind a love affair that almost destroyed Wharton Park.

If you could sum up Hothouse Flower in three words, what would they be?

    Engaging, lovely, fascinating.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hothouse Flower?

    When Kit gets to fly to Thailand to settle his love to Julia at the expense and generosity of Lidia, followed by the purchase of the estate;

Have you listened to any of Beth Chalmers’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not. None the less, this was perfect.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Julia plays the gran piano to Lidia.

    Any additional comments?

The most fascinating love story I read to date.

How much better would your life be if you had an army of Nobel Laureates, MacArthur ‘geniuses’ and National Medal of Science winners whispering tips in your ear about your body language, or how to resist that impulse purchase you’ll regret tomorrow, or when to sell your car - or even helping you trick your spouse into doing the dishes?

This true modern masterpiece is built around the two fateful words that make up the title and herald the end - “Alas, Babylon.” When a nuclear holocaust ravages the United States, a thousand years of civilization are stripped away overnight, and tens of millions of people are killed instantly. But for one small town in Florida, miraculously spared, the struggle is just beginning, as men and women of all backgrounds join together to confront the darkness....

    Evelyn says: "Excellent listen"
    "A delicious journey"

The interesting but lovable characters and a really credible post nuclear survival environment and the constant heart softening value-inversions made me dream awake so many times I even lost count of how many times I had to rewind due to imagination deviations... I want more!

America is a barren landscape of smoldering ashes, devoid of life except for those people still struggling to scratch out some type of existence. Amidst this destruction, a father and his young son walk, always toward the coast, but with no real understanding that circumstances will improve once they arrive. Still, they persevere, and their relationship comes to represent goodness in a world of utter devastation.

Kinda book that won`t let you do anything else with your free time until you have it all. The narrator is absolutely perfect! And the story puts Mr. Cormac McCarthy on the top of my library.
