I have read/listened to numerous motivational books and speakers.Usually I get motivated for a while, but then it fades away. Rather than being information to tell me why I should change a habit (something I already know), this book delves into WHY I don't change - even though I have lots of reasons to and I really WANT to. It involves just enough scientific research to back up the claims, without getting boring or over-involved. These also showed me why some of the successes in my life happened - I could see the changes I made in relation to the information given. There are excellent tools for figuring out how to make this work for you personally, including access to a companion website.
All of the books by this author raise ethical questions which will stay with you long after the book is finished. This story is about a school shooting, told from multiple points of view, It delves deep into teenage angst and bullying - and would be a great launchpad for discussions with teenagers. All the characters are well rounded and all elicit sympathy and understanding, even the unexpected ones. The narrator does a great job with the multiple characters, bringing their age/gender, and personality across to the listener. Definitely a story you will remember!
I loved this book from the first time I read it. It is a great combination of ethics, mystery, history, and romance. I live in Vermont, and have lived in New England all my life, but this taught me a side of local history I didn't know.
Don't be thrown off by the fact that it is a 'ghost story" because it is not a typical spooky tale. In fact, according to the notes in the book, the author worked with TAPS (of TV Ghost Hunters fame) before they became well known.
My one suggestion to a listener is to make sure that you have the time to pay attention, because there are multiple story lines and it can be a little confusing in the beginning. It is worth getting into it and of course, you know it will all come together by the end (and in more ways than I had expected).
I have read this book more than once, and the audible version was wonderful - the narrator did a great job.
