MacKayla Lane's life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she's your perfectly ordinary 21st-century woman. Or so she thinks...until something extraordinary happens.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narrator for this book is horrible. It's hard to get into a story when you can't get passed horrible accents. Every body in this book sounds either like a leprachaun or an idiot.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Darkfever?

this is an awesome series and I revisit it frequently (reading my copies) Although the last few books are read by a really good narrator...the first few are not!

How did the narrator detract from the book?

    hugely

I found an envelope in the mail. No return address. My name on the front, my address. Inside was a check, made out to me, in the amount of 10 thousand dollars. Enough to pay the bills and leave me some left over to live on until I found a job. Enough to let me focus on classes. There was no name on the check, just "VRI Inc.", and a post office box address for somewhere in the city. No hint of identity or reason for the check or anything. No mention of repayment, interest, nothing...except a single word, on the notes line: "You." Just those three letters.

    Worst ever book, ever.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    anything but this

What didn’t you like about Summer Roberts and Tyler Donne ’s performance?

completely unbelievable and not even in one of those good, sort of mindless ways.

The name Borgia is synonymous with the corruption, nepotism, and greed that were rife in Renaissance Italy. The powerful, voracious Rodrigo Borgia, better known to history as Pope Alexander VI, was the central figure of the dynasty. Two of his seven papal offspring also rose to power and fame. The Borgias were notorious for seizing power, wealth, land, and titles through bribery, marriage, and murder. The story of the family's dramatic rise from its Spanish roots to the highest position in Italian society is an absorbing tale.

Where does The Borgias and Their Enemies rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is a really well organised history. There is some confusion with names (as is to be expected in history books around this era; titles attached to multiple people over time) but overall a really interesting read and well worth your time.

  • God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything

In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris' recent best-seller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos.

Would you consider the audio edition of God Is Not Great to be better than the print version?

Yes, since the author narrates his own work, you can hear the words as they are intended to be read

    Any additional comments?

This will definitely piss off religious people. Lots of good facts here, and good sound logic practically seeps out of this book. It's unfortunate the author is no longer with us as we won't get gems like this anymore.

After a near-fatal head injury, Navy SEAL lieutenant Tom Paoletti catches a glimpse of an international terrorist in his New England hometown. When he calls for help, the Navy dismisses the sighting as injury-induced imaginings. In a last-ditch effort to prevent disaster, Tom creates his own makeshift counterterrorism team, assembling his most loyal officers, two elderly war veterans, a couple of misfit teenagers, and Dr. Kelly Ashton.

What did you like best about The Unsung Hero? What did you like least?

How are you going to have a male and female narrator and have the woman do girl and boy voices? The man also does both girl and boy voices. This was poorly executed. I abandoned this book in the early stages due to the confusion. Please don't ever do that again, audible.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I don't know. Couldn't get through it due to annoying narrator confusion.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Patrick Lawlor and Melanie Ewbank ?

Their voices were fine, but a little arrangement management will solve the glaring problem of continuity.

Where does You Might Be a Zombie and Other Bad News rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is a book I listened to within a very short period of time. It doesnt really have a focus, more like a collection of really funny and interesting, albeit useless, facts.

What does Johnny Heller bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    Great narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes, and I did.

    Any additional comments?

I read a very passionate review from someone who insisted that you MUST buy this book in its physical form to truly appreciate it, as the illustrations are absolutely crucial. All I can say is - this is just not so. I bought the physical book and when it was delivered, I eagerly opened it with every expectation of even greater treasures in the form of these magical illustrations. Nope. They're ok and all. But I'm not a third grader. If you are also not a third grader, you too can enjoy this book in the narrated form.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

What did you like best about Gone Girl? What did you like least?

The beginning of the story was slow and felt like your typical whodunnit. It finally picked up in the middle and became very enthralling. The way the author wrapped up the end was very disappointing. It's almost like she got bored with her own story and just dropped it like it was hot.

Would you ever listen to anything by Gillian Flynn again?

    Nah, thanks though.

Which character – as performed by Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne – was your favorite?

None, they were all fairly dispicable.

As Josh recovers, his mind is increasingly invaded with thoughts that have the emotion, the intensity, the intimacy of memories. But they are not his memories. They are ancient... and violent. A battery of medical and psychological tests can't explain Josh's baffling symptoms. And the memories have an urgency he can't ignore, pulling him to save a woman named Sabina, and the treasures she is protecting.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The story kind of meandered. This guy was having what seemed like hallucinations and was idly wondering why he was having these sort of episodes. I just didn't believe it or relate to the character at all. Not for me, but not exactly bad. Just kind of, Eh.

What three words best describe Phil Gigante’s voice?

LOVE Phil Gigante as a narrator!

    Any additional comments?

I couldn't get through the story as it didn't really suck me in. Although it is possible, this could've gotten better if you can persist through the boring beginning chapters.

Captain Eric Weston and his crew encounter horrors, wonders, monsters, and people; all of which will test their resolve, challenge their abilities, and put in sharp relief what is necessary to be a hero. What disappointed you about Into the Black?

To be fair here, maybe it is a great story. Perhaps it's one of the best books ever. However, it didn't go anywhere fast enough and the narrator made it nearly impossible to listen to as he sounded like my high school economics teacher...that is, absolutely monotone and epically boring.

Would you ever listen to anything by Evan Currie again?

If it were narrated by someone else, sure.

Jamie Fraser knows from his time-traveling wife Claire that, no matter how unlikely it seems, America will win the Revolutionary War. But that truth offers little solace, since Jamie realizes he might find himself pointing a weapon directly at his own son - a young officer in the British army.
