Join Emmy-winning comedy writer Ken Levine as he attempts to grow up in the most exciting and turbulent decade of the 20th Century. From the California Myth, to the Sunset Strip, the war, the Beatles, the hippies, the riots, the drugs, and the sex - Ken Levine has lived it (although not as much sex as he would have liked). He shows you what a profound and indelible effect the '60s had on him and the world through a series of hilarious (and sometimes harrowing) first-hand recollections that will put you right there with him.

What did you love best about The Me Generation...By Me?

Consistently entertaining and laugh out loud funny.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The book's author, Ken Levine (with Honoria Feldman being a close second).

What does Ken Levine bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Ken's delivery of jokes is spot-on - and his stentorian tones are quite soothing.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh a lot. It didn't make me cry at all.

    Any additional comments?

I listen to more than a dozen books on audio every year - and this was easily the most enjoyable in memory.

Fred Stoller has played the annoying schnook in just about every sitcom you’ve seen on TV - Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, Scrubs, Hannah Montana, My Name Is Earl - and was even a staff writer for Seinfeld, but he’s never found a solid gig. When it comes to Hollywood, it’s a case of always the bridesmaid and never the bride, except in his case he’s always the snarky waiter, the mopey cousin, or Man Number Two.

Where does Maybe We'll Have You Back rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This audiobook ranks near the top of the dozens I have in my Audible collection.

I worked with Fred Stoller for a few days twenty years ago and picked this book up on a whim when I saw it listed.

It far exceeded any expectations I might have had.

"Maybe We'll Have You Back" is funny, revealing, poignant and extremely informative; I can't imagine that a better book has ever been written about what life is like for a character actor in the TV trenches.

Not incidentally, I was a bit concerned that the audiobook is read by Ray Chase and not Fred - but I quickly discovered that Chase reads the material with a perfect approximation of the author's Brooklyn cadence and inflections. I think he does Fred better than Fred.

    A must listen.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    It's a toss-up between Fred and Fred's mom...

What about Ray Chase’s performance did you like?

His performance is natural, fluid and perfectly captures Fred Stoller's comedy rhythms.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh several times. It did not make me cry at all.

    Any additional comments?

    Well-done!

You've probably heard clips from Senator Clinton's interview with Barbara Walters. But now you can listen to her full account of her years in the White House. Hillary Clinton vividly describes her pain over her husband's betrayal with Monica Lewinky saying that former President Bill Clinton lied to her about the relationship until the weekend before he admitted the nature of it to a grand jury.

    Overall

    - is that this version of the book has been (apparently) greatly shortened from the full memoir.

I started listening with a fair amount of skepticism; Although I'm a democrat, I suppose I had the same perception of Hillary Clinton that so many others have - a woman who stayed in a marriage for political expediency - a woman with darker motives hidden by a sunny disposition - Lady Macbeth...

Having listened carefully to the whole book - can a single person who gave it one star say that? - I came away with a very different feeling about the woman.

There's something about hearing her tell the story in her own voice which will sway you - or it won't. But it's definitely worth the listen. Honestly. Give it a shot.

P.S. There seems to be a running complaint from the conservative reactionary subscribers implying that this book is Hillary Clinton's way of clearing the decks for a 2008 presidential run. If so - who cares? It's intelligent, well-written and thoughtfully performed.

P.P.S. I considered giving this book 5 stars to help counterbalance the 1 star given by those who didn't listen but merely hate the Clintons - but I wanted this to be 'fair and balanced' - and above all - AN HONEST EVALUATION OF THE MATERIAL, NOT AN EXPRESSION OF MY POLITICAL BELIEFS.

  • Why Are We at War?

Why Are We at War? is an explosive argument about George W. Bush and his quest for empire. Norman Mailer lays bare the White House's position on why war in Iraq is necessary and justified. By scrutinizing the administration's words and actions leading up to the current crisis, Mailer carefully builds his case that Bush is pursuing war not in the name of security or anti-terrorism or human rights, but in an undeclared yet fully realized ambition of global empire.

    Overall

I would put money down that most (if not all) of the people who gave this book a negative review (including the reviewer who says that they're 'no fan of Dubya') were trying to sink Mailer's book without having even listened to it on the pretext that it's critical of our president (who we can all agree drew upon his great reserve of experience and understanding of international politics before he launched the campaign on Iraq).

If they HAD listened, they would know that Mailer's book is not some extreme liberal reactionary polemic but an intelligent and well-considered essay - even if it does run counter to these 'reviewers' take on current American policy.

Listen. Consider intelligently. And then react.
