I purchased this during a sale. The narrator sniff and smacked and read over mistakes. Choose a different narrator -- any narrator.
I will not read Stephen King. I prefer not to be horrified. Not everyone is like that. If you enjoy that feeling, you have probably read every book, short story or forward he has ever written and own several special dvd collections. Not me. I've managed to avoid them all. If I know the plot of a Mr. King novel or movie, I know it because he is a cultural phenomenon, not because I have ever read one of his books.
Caught as I was by the title, I read the description of 11-22-63 without noticing the author. When I did notice who wrote it, I took it out of my cart and looked for something else. Frankly, after two days of looking for an alternative, I reluctantly looked at it again and relented. It did not look horrifying.
Surprise! I'm glad I read it. 11-22-63 is an excellent read for those with prejudices like mine. It is perfectly suspenseful and well written, without creepiness, except some at the end and you know it is coming by the time it arrives. Mr. King spins a tale with a new twist on time travel that is well-presented. The narrator captures the characters well. The characters show humor and humanity. Oh, go on and try it. I still get a great night's sleep.
Ms. Evanovich significantly improved her between-the-numbers series with Plum Lucky. Our favorite bounty hunter does battle with Gramma Mazur, Diesel, and a toad-like Mafia lunatic in wholly improbable and entertaining circumstances. Even Ranger and Morelli make appearances. A naked Leprechaun and Connie as a sniper round out the performance with 'Burg class. You'll enjoy it.
