This is one of the best audible listens yet. I am very particular in choosing my audio books and it took me sometime to settle on this one - I don't regret it in the least. It was a marvelous and keen story. Very perceptive and subtly witty. It is not a fast paced or a short book, but I was happy to return to it every time I had the chance to listen. I am looking forward to reading other works by Wilkie Collins and I thought Peter Jeffery captured the emotion and flavor of the work beautifully.
1984 is a chilling classic that cuts deep in current political climates. Orwell's prose is powerful and engaging - and Prebble's narration does not miss a note.
Orwell has an uncanny ability to expose subtle manipulations are stip away the blinders we are too often eagerly wearing in Western Society. This is what makes the story so poignant, but even if you disregard the "message," the plot is enough to keep you listening. Unforgettable.
Rowling has written a marvelous story, As with her previous work her crowning achievement is her keen perception into human characters. I could barely stop listening and shot through this book faster that any other I have purchased from audible.
The narration was top-notch as well.
The only complaint I have and the one thing people may want to note is the liberal use of expletives (most of them very "harsh"). I thought she went a bit far - we get the point. There is also some moral ambiguity that I found disappointing.
Overall however, I am cannot wait for the next installment. I am in awe with this author's ability.
An excellent format for this winning book. I wouldn't want to read when I can have the Dr. Medina read it to me. I felt as though I was sitting in on one of the most interesting lectures of my life
