Gene Hawkins, investigator by trade, was expert at arranging events so that they appeared accidental to all involved. Therefore, when he himself witnessed an ‘accident’ his curiosity flared up bright, and he insisted on looking into what he regarded as a work of art. A quarter of a million pounds worth of Derby-winning stallion had vanished into the Blue Grass of Kentucky... and a young man and a girl spent a dangerous afternoon in a punt on the River Thames.

I love all Dick Francis books and Tony Britton is my favourite narrator so I admit I'm a bit biased but this really is a great book to buy. Having experienced depression first hand, I can tell you the descriptions and struggles of the lead character are genuinely realistic. The storyline is pure Dick Francis and as always it's hard to stop listening once you start! Tony Britton is really one of the best narrators around with different voices for each character and very believable female voices. He definatly adds to rather than destracts from the story.

In a world where people born with an exceptional skill, known as a Grace, are feared and exploited, Katsa carries the burden of a skill even she despises: the Grace of killing. She lives under the command of her Uncle Randa, King of the Middluns, and is expected to carry out his dirty work, punnishing and torturing anyone who displeases him. Breaking arms and cutting off fingers are her stock-in-trade.

This is written for young adults so it is a bit faster paced then some fantasy which I like. The author paints a vivid, belivable world and has strong, sympathetic characters. I have previously read the book so knew the storyline and I think it was becaue of this I found the narrator a bit dificult to listen to at first as her voice was nothing like I had imagened any of the characters. Once I got used to her however I enjoyed her portrayal of the characters. Good listen. I recommend it if you enjoy this genre.

While not my favorite in the series i still really enjoyed listning to this book. It's the first of a 2 part story within the series so there is a lot of setting up the story and discovering who the bad guys are. If you are listning to all the books and have just finished book 4 I'd suggest listning to book 7 first as, although published later, that story takes place before this one.

Katherine Adams said she'd never make her sister Mary's mistakes. Mary's fairy-tale marriage into the wealthy, powerful Manning dynasty had turned into a nightmare of abuse. Then, on the night her playboy husband was killed in a car accident, Mary died in childbirth. Now savvy, smart, and very angry Katherine vowed to never let a Manning, any Manning, near Mary's child - not even the dashing, charismatic oil man who showed up at her door.

Bought this as an "escape" listen, which is pretty much what it is. Not much thinking involved but something fun to listen to while cleaning the house.
