Everyone knows the story-how Arthur pulled the sword from the stone, how Camelot came to be, and about the power struggles that ultimately destroyed Arthur's dreams. But what of the time before Arthur and the forces that created him?

I like Historical Fiction and I hate History texts. This book can not decide what it wants to be. It has some interesting characters and some interesting stories, but it is mostly lectures. It is long detailed descriptions of Roman Warfare. What they wore, full descriptions of most of the weapons they used and how they used them. A lot on tactics, etc. There are lectures on Smithing. There is even lectures on slavery. These lectures often add little to the story. It is a real shame, because when Jack is not lecturing, his well developed characters are doing interesting things. I did not sign up for a Great Courses on Roman Warfare, so six hours in, I called it quits.

April Madison is clearly losing her mind. From innocent victim to cold blooded killer in one fell swoop, the poor widow seems controlled by forces greater than her own. "My hand reaches up as if it has a mind of its own. Slash. Slash. Slice. A gaping hole appears in the woman's abdomen and reveals a disgusting hodge-podge of gleaming organs that twitch and throb like a jar of frogs." It's the unexpected surprise ending that no one saw coming!

This is the better of the three and it does deserve the description, Extreme Horror and Gore. Finally a female narrator is used, as the main character is female. Also starring this book is a Demon. If your into blood and gore, this book is for you.

Critically acclaimed cult novelist Matt Ruff makes visceral the terrors of life in Jim Crow America and its lingering effects in this brilliant and wondrous work of the imagination that melds historical fiction, pulp noir, and Lovecraftian horror and fantasy.

PAYING WHAT IS OWED IS NOT A FAVOR
A very unique book, coming from a very unique angle. I would like to read more books like this. This book has a little of everything. An isolated backwoods town in which most people live like the Amish and is run by a very strange family. SONS AMONG SONS. There are ghosts, magic, secret rooms, alternate universes and redneck sheriffs.

    SIX BRIDGES AHEAD
The main characters are black and the time is the 1950's. As a reader going through what a black person, went through in the 50's is certainly an eye opener. Another reason, anytime someone says the good ole days, they are white and lived on the right side of the tracks. When I was in middle school I lived in a small Ozark town, that used to the a Sun Downer. They spoke of it proudly and no one of any color other than white lived in that town.

    IT IS WHAT IT IS
For the first three or four hours I thought this would be a five star listen. As it turned out this is a group of short novels, not even starring the same main character. In each story, someone who was a minor character or just mentioned in an earlier story will often be the main character in the next story. Because it is different stories, some are better than others and the plot is thin. I would like to read a book by Ruff written in whole sometime.

How can a five hour book be too long? There was lots of action, but very little mystery. Some interesting characters, but not developed. I think if we could have heard the story from the side of the BigFeets, it would have been more interesting. I tried, but I just could not get into this story.

If you like Jack Ketchum's Off Season series about cannibals in Maine, you will love this story. It is almost a sequel. Two different authors and two different continents, but similar stories, but this one reads like a prequel to the Ketchum series.

Why do I like this kind of stuff, I don't know. I like to explore human nature and what causes us to do the things we do. This actually seems plausible. If people lived under ground, what would happen to them physically and mentally. This is not for everyone, but for the demented as myself it was fun and entertaining.

April Madison has lost nearly everyone she has ever loved or almost loved. Her husband, her youngest daughter, and her most recent love interest have all met untimely ends, and her oldest daughter lies nearly lifeless in a coma. All she has left is the demonic antique doll that started it all. Now that April realizes the source of the extreme horror that plagues her and her family, she has to figure out how to get rid of it, and that's no easy task. Evil doesn't fight fair.

    THE GOLDEN GOOSE
I mentioned in my review of book one, that I might be making a mistake by getting this book, and boy was I right. This jumps all over the place, has no plot and is just stupid. The narrator still is a man.

I have started book three and it is more interesting and has a female narrator. A report later.

Originally written in Icelandic in the 13th century AD by an anonymous author, The Story of The Volsungs is a legendary saga based on Norse mythology. The epic describes the legendary history and heroic feats of several generations of mythic Viking families and derives from many sources, including preexisting Edda, or heroic poems, Norse legends, historical events, and orally transmitted folklore. The saga is imbued throughout with themes of power, jealousy, love, vengeance, and fear.

    KRIS FRICKLE
i have to admit that I thought the same thing that Kris Frickle commented on in his review. If this was not written in English, why did they translate it today into old English?

I listened for three hours, but just could not keep my mind from wondering. I caught some parts about Werewolves and there was a sword in tree story similar to King Arthur, but as a whole it was boring. I think a good historical fiction book could be made out of this, but this is way to dry and the narrator also way too dry.

IS THE JUICE WORTH THE SQUEEZE?
I listened for four hours, but just never could get into this very strange book. I went on a MIND RUN. While, the living someone else's life was interesting, the chic lit over angst part drove me away. It was like two books in one and I was not sure i liked one of the two. The narrator did not help, as she was not inspiring. I can see how some ppl might like this. I was put off by the chick lit drama.

    Extreme
The last half hour would be considered extreme, but by that time I was actually laughing and routing for the main character to do something even more terrifying.

At the end of the first hour, I was thinking I was going to give up, but I could not stop listening and the more I listened, the more I was interested. I enjoyed the development of the characters. Kind of cliché, but kind of not.

I thought I knew where the story was going, but I did not at all. This is not a book for everyone. I like books with that B movie feel to them. I like my horror to not be real horror. Campy maybe? I don't know. If you know what I am talking about, you will like this. If you are lost, and I understand, you probably will not enjoy this.

I did not understand the narrator at all. He did an okay job, but top tier, he is not. I also did not understand why a man was narrating, when almost all the characters are female.

I am buying the two sequels. I may be sorry, but I am going to give it a shot. Tune in tomorrow.

    STUPID WITH LUST
Someone please explain to me the difference between Porn, Romance and Erotica. To me this is Porn. Having said that, it was great. This is porn that can be enjoyed by both sexes. There is a story, {highly unbelievable}, but it is there. I don't read much in this genre, but early on, because I am a fantasy fan, I meet Cole's writing. I have always said, a good writer can write in any genre and that is how I feel about Cole. The sex is very hot ant very explicit. There is embedded a little about Russia and that entices me almost as much as the sex.

Most of us have heard about the Russian Mafia, but why does it exist? This takes the first step in explaining that. If you are thinking High and Mighty because you are American or English, than read your history. Most influential families got their start through crime. Wake up, cheaters win.

    Narrator
This narrator is excellent. She makes the story come alive. Part 2 is in my wish list. Yes, it is not a full story and maybe Cole is making more money, this way, but I don't care. I got five hours of great entertainment.

JOKE HIM, IF HE CAN'T TAKE A F###
