  • Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 4 mins)
    • By John Grisham
    • Narrated By Richard Thomas
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In the small city of Strattenburg, there are many lawyers, and though he’s only 13 years old, Theo Boone thinks he’s one of them. Theo knows every judge, policeman, court clerk—and a lot about the law. He dreams of being a great trial lawyer, of a life in the courtroom. But Theo finds himself in court much sooner than expected. Because he knows so much—maybe too much—he is suddenly dragged into the middle of a sensational murder trial.

Brian says: "Fantastic for young audience, Good for adults"
"Grisham With a Good Ending! Honest!!!"

Grisham has gotten at least one foot off his liberal soapbox, swallowed some of his cynicism, and written a thoughtful and perceptive "feel good" story. The author has crawled inside the mind of Theo Boone, a generous and very precocious thirteen year old in love with the law and passionate about helping people. He just did not expect to be involved in catching a murderer. Theodore Boone will steal your heart whether you are thirteen or thirty-nine! When I need to relax, I re-listen to several chapters. Write a sequel, John.

  • Suspect

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 30 mins)
    • By Robert Crais
    • Narrated By MacLeod Andrews
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well, not since a shocking nighttime assault by unidentified men killed his partner, Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty - until he meets his new partner. Maggie is not doing so well, either. The German shepherd survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before she lost her handler to an IED and sniper attack, and her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s. They are each other’s last chance.

    Jacqueline says: "Gripping Page Turner!!"
"This is for Dog lovers & everyone else!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Suspect to be better than the print version?

While I have not read the print version, this narrator does a superb job of crawling behind the police dog's eyes—with inflection and cadence. His voice is spectacular!

What did you like best about this story?

There is no gratuitous barrage of obsenities in this book to distract from the detail of plot development.

What does MacLeod Andrews bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

MacLeod Andrews MUST be a devotee of intelligent dog breeds. You can hear the admiration in his voice.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    I laughed, cried and cheered!

    Any additional comments?

Please write more stories of Scott and Maggie!!!

  • Mrs. Pollifax Pursued

    • UNABRIDGED (4 hrs and 50 mins)
    • By Dorothy Gilman
    • Narrated By multivoice

Kadi Hopkirk has been hiding in Mrs. Pollifax's junk closet for two days. Kadi spills out an improbable story - that since a chance meeting with a childhood friend she has been followed by persons unknown in a sinister van. A little experiment on Mrs. P's part proves at least this part of the story correct. What began as a dash for safety and a call for help expands into an assignment that leads to hair-trigger violence in exotic places.

    Marilyn says: "disappointing audio"
    "Mrs.Pollifax Goes Everywhere!"

Mrs. P's latest adventure is a kaleidiscope of adventures so out of the ordinary, they almost become a distraction-almost. Veryentertaining for a long drive.

  • Dial H for Hitchcock: A Cece Caruso Mystery

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 17 mins)
    • By Susan Kandel
    • Narrated By Dina Pearlman
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Cece Caruso--mystery biographer extraordinaire, vintage clothing enthusiast, and part-time sleuth—is in freefall. First, she calls off her wedding, for reasons even she can't explain. Second, her newest biography (of Alfred Hitchcock) is way past deadline. So Cece puts on a houndstooth suit with peplum and heads out to see Vertigo, only to come home with a cell phone belonging to a stranger named Anita Colby. Nothing if not a good citizen, Cece tries to return the cell phone—only to hear someone push Anita off a cliff.

    Michele says: "Enjoyable Lite Fluff"
    "Frenetic and Disappointing"

While I like the main character, the ending (solution) to the murder is disgusting. I felt I had been "had".

  • Guardian of Lies: A Paul Madriani Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 17 mins)
    • By Steve Martini
    • Narrated By George Guidall
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Together with his partner, Harry Hinds, Madriani must piece together the threads of a decades-old conspiracy involving priceless gold coins, an aging American spy, a disaffected Russian soldier, and a forgotten weapon from the days of JFK and the Cuban Missile Crisis. As the separate strands of the story come together, Madriani finds information that will ultimately lead him to the one person who holds the key to it all: a man some call "The Guardian of Lies".

Sharon in Surrey says: "Guardian of Lies"
    "Good, but not Martini's Best!"

As a fan of Martini, this book has too much action that is not feasible. The Judge and Compelling Evidence are so believeable. Not so in Guardian of Lies. Martini is at his best game with courtroom drama!
