Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership. In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires?

    Story

Almost a year ago, I had amassed credits on my account and found a few books to use them up and close my account. One of them was the first book in this series. My 17-year old daughter and I listened to that book late this summer while traveling and I had to rejoin Audible just to get the entire series. The sex scenes can be a bit much, but that would be my only complaint. This series is addictive. We blasted through 5 books in a few weeks and were anxiously awaiting the next credits.

The story: The characters are believable and engaging. They are dynamic. The plots are interesting and fast-moving with just enough twists to keep a sharp mind attentive. The sex scenes are believable and fairly graphic (for my 17-year old, but we openly discuss such things so I was okay with it.) One big caveat: Go to her website to get the reading order. I believe that after book 3, you need to switch to the "Night Huntress World" series before reading books 4 and 5. Double check that, I'm going from memory.

The performance: The reader was FANTASTIC. She really brought the characters to life. She made the action scenes and scenes with emotion really shine. I've since gone looking for other things that she reads.

If another installment of this series came available, it would jump to the top of my wish list.

Ken Follett's World Without End was a global phenomenon, a work of grand historical sweep beloved by millions of readers and acclaimed by critics. Fall of Giants is his magnificent new historical epic. The first novel in The Century Trilogy, it follows the fates of five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they move through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for women's suffrage.

I just wanted to add my review to the multitude of others. I read this book in the Century Trilogy for a book club and was hooked. When Winter of the World was released, I also snapped it up.

I'm not usually a fan of historical fiction and particularly not a fan of the writing style that features multiple unrelated characters that end up being tied together. The fact that I give both the story and the performance 5 stars should tell you exactly how good this book is. I eagerly await the release of the final book and will buy it in audiobook form.

Winter of the World picks up right where the first book left off, as its five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, Welsh - enter a time of enormous social, political, and economic turmoil, beginning with the rise of the Third Reich, through the Spanish Civil War and the great dramas of World War II, up to the explosions of the American and Soviet atomic bombs. As always with Ken Follett, the historical background is brilliantly researched and rendered, the action fast-moving, the characters rich in nuance and emotion.

Dangerously seductive and sinfully beautiful, Susanna Burney is society’s most sought after matchbreaker. Paid by wealthy parents to part unsuitable couples, she’s never yet failed to accomplish her mission of diverting a groom-to-be - until her final assignment brings her face-to-face with the man who’d once taught her an intimate lesson in heartache.

Disclaimer: I've only listened to the first 45 minutes of this audiobook. At first, I was thinking, this author is good - the details are very realistic. But the first 45 minutes of the audiobook cover about 3 minutes of the storyline. The author goes too far in detail. After the first 15 minutes I was bored and kept hoping it would pickup. After 45 minutes I couldn't take anymore and shut it off. I may try to listen to it again later and if I do, I'll change my review accordingly.

Ignatius Perrish spent the night drunk and doing terrible things. He woke up the next morning with a thunderous hangover, a raging headache, and a pair of horns growing from his temples. At first Ig thought the horns were a hallucination, the product of a mind damaged by rage and grief. He had spent the last year in a lonely, private purgatory, following the death of his beloved, Merrin Williams, who was raped and murdered under inexplicable circumstances.

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.
