August (Auggie) Pullman was born with a facial deformity that prevented him from going to a mainstream school - until now. He’s about to enter fifth grade at Beecher Prep, and if you’ve ever been the new kid, then you know how hard that can be. The thing is Auggie’s just an ordinary kid, with an extraordinary face. But can he convince his new classmates that he’s just like them, despite appearances?R. J. Palacio has crafted an uplifting novel full of wonderfully realistic family interactions, lively school scenes, and writing that shines with spare emotional power.

In the town of Placid, Wisconsin, in 1871, Georgie Burkhardt is known for two things: her uncanny aim with a rifle and her habit of speaking her mind plainly. But when Georgie blurts out something she shouldn't, her older sister Agatha flees, running off with a pack of "pigeoners" trailing the passenger pigeon migration. And when the sheriff returns to town with an unidentifiable body - wearing Agatha's blue-green ball gown - everyone assumes the worst…Except Georgie. Refusing to believe the facts that are laid down (and coffined) before her, Georgie sets out on a journey to find her sister.

Just about perfect. The story is great, with a strong setting that reveals the peacefulness and wildness of the west at once. The main character is strong and sassy and smart and irresponsible, but completely like-able. Mystery and adventure are weaved into the story, and I just guarantee that you'll love it! I'm SERIOUS about my audiobooks, and this one is a big hit!

Kyle Keeley is the class clown, popular with most kids, (if not the teachers), and an ardent fan of all games: board games, word games, and particularly video games. His hero, Luigi Lemoncello, the most notorious and creative game maker in the world, just so happens to be the genius behind the building of the new town library. Lucky Kyle wins a coveted spot to be one of the first 12 kids in the library for an overnight of fun, food, and lots and lots of games. But when morning comes, the doors remain locked. Kyle and the other winners must solve every clue and every secret puzzle to find the hidden escape route.

This book feels more like a description of the ultimate library with a fun game than an actual story. Yes, there's a story weaved into it, but it feels like the story is second to all of the fun ideas. The narration is a little clunky and doesn't add to the story. I am an avid audiobook listener, but I couldn't even get all the way through this one.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The book has a great concept- but it was much longer than it needed to be. At times I would "zone out", and when I came back, there hadn't been much progress. By then end of the book, I just wanted to finish! The pace didn't pick up at the end, when you knew what was going to happen at the end.

Would you be willing to try another book from Scott Westerfeld? Why or why not?

Probably not. This book was very long winded.

Did Carine Montbertrand do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

The voices were clear, but very nasal. Some characters voices were VERY annoying.

The first part got me hooked, but by the end I just felt like it was dragging. I wanted to finish, of course, but it was a little bit of a chore to listen to the end.

    Not sure

    Any additional comments?

The story just really sucks you in and is totally great! The voice is very firm, almost like like an announcement over a PA system. When he does the character voices, it sounds great! It's still one of my favorite audiobooks, though!

Why we think it’s a great listen: Gaiman’s not just an award-winning author, but a narrator who earns rave reviews – and fields requests from other authors to perform their books, too! Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead....

Where does The Graveyard Book rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I listened to this while running, and I often have a hard time following a story and keeping my attention on a story while running. But this one did the trick! I LOVED the performace by the author- he was pretty amazing. The story is great, too. Quirky and cute.
