  • As the Pig Turns

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 36 mins)
    • By M. C. Beaton
    • Narrated By Penelope Keith
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The picturesque Cotwsold village of Winter Parva has decided to warm the post-Christmas season by roasting a pig in the town square. Agatha, always one for a good roasting, organizes an outing to enjoy the merriment. But as the rotary spit is placed over a bed of fiery charcoals and the pig is carried toward its final resting place, Agatha realizes that things are not as they seem... Stop!" she screams suddenly. The "pig," in fact, is Gary Beech, a policeman not exactly beloved by the good people of the village. Although Agatha has every intention of leaving matters to the police....

    G. Byrge says: "Beaton always delivers"
    "Who wrote this book?"

How and when did Simon's parents rise from the dead. If the writer read Busy Body they would have known Simon's parents were killed in an accident. Now in As the Pig Turns they show up at his wedding. The story was a good one if you hadn't read Busy Body.

  • Something Borrowed, Someone Dead: An Agatha Raisin Mystery, Book 24

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 19 mins)
    • By M. C. Beaton
    • Narrated By Penelope Keith

Gloria French was a jolly widow with dyed blonde hair, a raucous laugh, and rosy cheeks. When she first moved from London to the charming Cotswold hills, she was heartily welcomed. She seemed a do-gooder par-excellence, raising funds for the church and caring for the elderly. But she had a nasty habit of borrowing things and not giving them back. They're just small things - a teapot here, a set of silverware there - so it's quite the shock when she is found dead, murdered with a poisoned bottle of elderberry wine.

Beatrice says: "Agatha Keeps Getting Better"
    "M. C. Beaton is back"
Who was your favorite character and why?

I love Agatha Raisin, warts and all.

What three words best describe Penelope Keith’s voice?

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was thrilled to see M. C. Beaton back to form with this new book. The mystery was intriguing and Agatha Raisin was her irrepressible self. Still preferred Donata Peters as the reader. Penelope Keith's voice is too old for a 50 year old.

  • Hiss and Hers: An Agatha Raisin Mystery, Book 23

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 24 mins)
    • By M. C. Beaton
    • Narrated By Davina Porter

Agatha has fallen head over heels in love - again. This time, she has her eye on the local gardener, George Marston, but so do other women in their little Cotswold village. Shamelessly determined, Agatha will do anything to get her man - including footing the bill for a charity ball just for the chance to dance with him. And then George doesn't even show up. Only partly deterred, Agatha goes looking for him, and finds his dead body in a compost heap. Murder is definitely afoot, but this killer chose no ordinary weapon: A poisonous snake delivered the fatal strike.

Maureen says: "Pity for the narration but story also lacking"
    "Not all that good"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No, This is one of the weakest stories in the Agatha Raisin series.

How could the performance have been better?

Go back to Donada Peters as the reader. Switching from Donada Peters to Penolope Keith and now Davina Porter does not make any sense.

Could you see Hiss and Hers being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    Any additional comments?

Try another book in the Agatha Raisin Series. M. C. Beaton should end the series if she is running out of ideas.

  • In the Company of Others

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 20 mins)
    • By Jan Karon
    • Narrated By Erik Singer

Father Tim and Cynthia arrive in the west of Ireland, intent on researching his Kavanagh ancestry from the comfort of a charming fishing lodge. The charm, however, is broken entirely when Cynthia startles a burglar and sprains her already injured ankle. Then a cherished and valuable painting is stolen from the lodge owners, and Cynthia's pain pales in comparison to the wound at the center of this bitterly estranged Irish family.

    Nilda says: "Disappointed"
    "Where is John McDonough?"

I loved listening to all the Mitford Books due to the excellant reader, John McDonough. Why change readers it spoils the tone and you cannot picture Father Tim or Cynthia with the new readers.

  • Bubbles All the Way

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 43 mins)
    • By Sarah Strohmeyer
    • Narrated By Barbara McCulloh

Agatha Award winner Sarah Strohmeyer's nationally best-selling mysteries starring Bubbles Yablonsky - the Pennsylvania Polish hairdresser turned amateur sleuth - delight fans with equal jolts of fun and suspense. In Bubbles All the Way, murder and betrayal get tangled up in the latest hairstyles when a House of Beauty hair extension procedure turns lethal.

    Kristin says: "What happened?"
    "Good book, bad ending"

Everything about the story was great until the cheesy ending.
