No, I don't think so.
I have not.
The performance was OK, about on par with the story.
No, I looked forward to more about travel. I didn't hate it, but it never grabbed me you might say. I listened while painting the interior of my house and it served it's purpose - meaning I didn't really have to listen much to get the gist.
This story might be good for a drive or a listen while you're painting the house. It doesn't sag or go off in monotonous tangents. It's just forgettable.
The story is straightforward and not tricky - and it's beautifully told. The poetry of Rumi and the relationship with Shams of Tabriz reflect well in the past as well as the present time. There is a gentleness in the story that I liked. The mundane-ness of a woman planning meals for her family -- I do this to escape life's realities. Maybe it's just the timing of this particular choice, but the story resonated on many levels. Can't wait to listen to more by this author.
Oh, the deliciousness of her deliberate pronunciation of each syllable gives the words weight and value. Loved it.
I'm well read and a tough critic -- I absolutely loved this story and it's delivery. Definitely worthwhile. So much so, I need to listen again - and I just finished it last week. Every aspect of the story and delivery were solid. Good work.
Anne Hathaway's narration was quite good.
Her expressions and interest in the story made it captivating.
Well, I think the film did a bang up job of interpreting the book.
It was fascinating to hear the original story as until now, I'd only known the film version of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
The long listing of mundane things makes this book tiresome very quickly. Maybe someone who enjoys minutia would enjoy this book.
After six hours, I didn't like any bit of it.
Sorry, not for me.
This story is impeccably crafted in its simplicity -- it's human-ness. The performance by Anthony Heald is outstanding. I will be looking for more audio books with his voice, an incredible narrator.
The character of the wife was painfully plain in her manner, but thoroughly supporting the family throughout.
My favorite scene was when Wang Lung appreciated his wife and cared for her as she lay dying.
Also, I loved the connection Wang Lung had to the land around him.
When O-lan was having children alone and went right back to the fields
An incredibly good story on all counts. It's multi-faceted, thoroughly a character study through the life of one farmer. I loved it thoroughly. Anthony Heald is an amazing talent.
Tina Fey is a really quick wit. She's funny and engaging and it's great that she narrated the audio book herself. I don't think it would have been as good otherwise.
When Tina talked about meeting Sarah Palin - I was painting ceiling and almost fell off the ladder!
Her humor is real life and not just raunchy for raunchy's sake
Not other than I was moved to laughter.
Glad I chose this as an audio book. Am sure it is funnier in Tina's voice than in print.
