Daughter of a cold, controlling mother and an anonymous donor, studious, obedient Elizabeth finally let loose one night, drinking too much at a nightclub and allowing a strange man’s seductive Russian accent to lure her to a house on Lake Shore Drive. The events that followed changed her life forever. Twelve years later, the woman now known as Abigail Lowery lives alone on the outskirts of a small town in the Ozarks. A freelance programmer, she works at home designing sophisticated security systems.

What made the experience of listening to The Witness the most enjoyable?

Julia Whelan is great at narrating in such a way that you can identify characters and their emotions through her voice changes and adaptions. I'm very impressed.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Witness?

The nightclub scene and teenage rebellion in the beginning is so well written and performed that the mother in me wanted to wrap my arms around Liz and protect her!

    Any additional comments?

This is a book that, once I finished it, I wanted to start over and listen again. The character depth and development is exceptional and the story line believeable. Nora Roberts is Excellent Again!

"'You knew they were there, didn't you?' Kahlan asked in a hushed tone as she leaned closer. Against the darkening sky, she could just make out the shapes of three black-tipped races taking to wing, beginning their nightly hunt. That was why he'd stopped. That was what he'd been watching as the rest of them waited in uneasy silence."

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A better narrator and no repeated passages.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jim Bond?

    George Guidall

What character would you cut from Naked Empire?

    none

    Any additional comments?

There are multiple times in this recording that entire sentences and paragraphs are repeated exactly in what appears to be very poor editing.

The narrator has a very nasally whiny and monotone voice whenever narrating side characters and makes it difficult to tolerate at times.

Her career in homicide has taken her into the darkest depths of New York City’s underground - and sometimes Lieutenant Eve Dallas feels more comfortable in those kinds of places than in the high-rise, high-society world of her billionaire husband, Roarke. But while she’s no party girl, she’s managing to have a reasonably good time at the celebrity-packed bash celebrating the debut of The Icove Agenda. This time it’s Eve, not Roarke, who’s a guest of honor, since the film is based on one of her famous cases. Her partner, Peabody, is practically giddy....

Amy Huber says: "Susan Ericksen is amazing!"

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book is suspensful and draws you along as usual. I recommend re-reading Origin In Death prior to reading this one. The story is based on the Icove Murders and I feel it would have flowed better for me had I realised and re-read Origin first. It'll keep you guessing, and just when you think you've got it all figured out, Surprise!
