Young, beautiful, and successful, Elena Michaels seems to have it all. Her happy, organized life follows a predictable pattern: filing stories for her job as a journalist, working out at the gym, living with her architect boyfriend, and lunching with her girlfriends from the office. And once a week, in the dead of night, she streaks through a downtown ravine, naked and furred, tearing at the throats of her animal prey. Elena Michaels is a werewolf.

I can't imagine what goes into a work of fiction and I respect anyone that invests this much into anything. That being said. This book is awful.
The heroine acts like a spoiled brat. Rebels and does whatever she wants contrary to logic. She is so busy with the "no one is telling her what to do" attitude to show us how "strong" she is that she makes mistakes almost constantly and has to be bailed out by her male counter parts. It's painful. She is supposed to be a werewolf who investigates other werewolves as a job yet she fails to do the most simple things to keep herself and the people around her out of harms way. She is frustrating.
    Don't get this book.

Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library.

The performance would have been great had the material been at all interesting. This is a romance novel, a bad one. It has and interesting premise and really could have gone somewhere if the author or the editor had actually been trying to tell the story the book starts with. The alchemical idea is also an interesting idea. Instead, Diana, the main character drinks tea and goes running and does yoga. She eats a lot. She falls in love with Matthew, instantly, then proceeds to let him tell her when she is hungry, tired and needs to go for a walk. It's,well, awkward. She is supposed to be a well educated woman in her late 30's. The whole book is full of incongruities. I am not a book snob. I can listen to almost any book. I am a sci-fi nut and that requires suspension of reality. I even like a little romance. I can give authors HUGE leaps of faith if it ends up even just a fun story in the end. This one made me fear I would get in a car accident as I could not help myself from rolling my eyes at it while I was listening in the car.
I hope this author uses the trilogy to actually tell her story in the end, because this book went nowhere.
