This was a non-taxing, easy listen. An interesting story - just a bit bland.
The endless stream of consciousness, self delusional narration of the characters with no real point. Like listening to hours of Facebook entries. And Annie's voice turns a potentially sympathetic, albeit shallow, character into someone you wish would just stop talking.
I love Wally Lamb's writing, so no.
There are too many reasons to enumerate
If you like Harlequin Romances, predictable plot lines, two dimensional characters and bodice-rippers in general, this is for you. Unfortunately, it is not for me. You may want to skip this one.
If you are a Murakami lover, you know that this is not a simple, conventional story. It's a wonderful insight into his mind. I've read the book; however, the audio adds nuance and depth to the characters and story.
I am in the middle of Chapter 3, and although I found the musings of the concierge interesting and intriguing at first, listening to her micro analysis of everything in her life - from the placement of a comma to the death of her spouse, is exhausting. And her disdain for the "upper classes" is tiresome. She definitely needs a hobby. I will put the book aside and try again, because I do enjoy the other characters.
