One or another of these caustic emotions sabotages lives on a daily basis and destroys relationships. But Stanley assures listeners that there is hope. In his trademark style - smart, engaging, and popular - he examines where these powerful forces come from and reveals effective strategies for overcoming them.

But when a wandering wizard captivates him with tales of the unknown, Bilbo becomes restless. Soon he joins the wizard’s band of homeless dwarves in search of giant spiders, savage wolves, and other dangers. Bilbo quickly tires of the quest for adventure and longs for the security of his familiar home. But before he can return to his life of comfort, he must face the greatest threat of all.

  • Outliers: The Story of Success

In this stunning new book, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of "outliers"--the best and the brightest, the most famous and the most successful. He asks the question: what makes high-achievers different? His answer is that we pay too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where they are from: that is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. People often have a romantic idea of how people became super successful. Gladwell shows why this is not the whole picture. Through exhaustive research the reasons why people have succeeded are shown.

    Which scene was your favorite?

How the Beatles succeeded by putting in 10,000 hours in Germany. How a Jewish immigrant lawyer succeeded because of his background that seemed to be disadvantageous.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I found myself saying "wow" several times.

  • King's Cross: The Story of the World in the Life of Jesus

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 6 mins)

King's Cross is Timothy Keller's revelatory look at the life of Christ as told in the Gospel of Mark. There have been many biographies of Jesus, but few will be as anticipated as one by Keller, the man Newsweek calls "a C. S. Lewis for the 21st century." In it, Keller shows how the story of Jesus is at once cosmic, historical, and personal, calling each of us to look anew at our relationship with God. Like Keller's other books it has tremendous crossover appeal, but it is also ideal for the faithful.

Janie Pickett says: "Narrator voice -- not quite Tim Keller"

If you could sum up King's Cross in three words, what would they be?

    Thorough, Relavant, Fresh

What was one of the most memorable moments of King's Cross?

The description of the girl following an invisible thread leading her on a scarry journey. I powerful picture of what it is like following the king. We don't know where he is leading us, but we know it will get us home.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened to the book in parts. There was much rich content to pause and chew on.

    Any additional comments?

When I gave the hard copy of this book to a deep-thinking teacher, he was very encouraged. He said he wanted to read it again to get more out of it.

Few subjects are as compelling-or as endlessly variable-as love and marriage. The Bible is filled with references to husbands and wives, from the story of Adam and Eve to advice in the New Testament, each open to interpretation. In The Meaning of Marriage, Timothy Keller, pastor of New York's Redeemer Presbyterian Church and bestselling author of The Reason for God, uses the scriptures as his guide to show readers what God's call to marriage is, and why this is such a powerful call.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to a friend. It is easy to understand but comprehensive and helpful.

What did you like best about this story?

It's a story that is enjoyable with lots of take-aways.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Tim's wife breaking the china to get his attention.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

Most marry for one of three reasons: 1. Physical attraction, 2. Money / financial stability, 3. Social status - two of these can quicly change. The first will certainly change for the worse. HOWEVER, if you marry a spiritual friend - your relationship will have longevity and true satisfaction in the deepest sence.
