Best Kept Secret opens a moment after the end of The Sins of the Father, with the resolution of the trial and the triumphant marriage of Harry Clifton and Elizabeth Barrington, finally uniting their family. Harry, now a best-selling novelist; Emma; their son, Sebastian; and orphaned Jessica make a new life for themselves, but all is not as happy and secure as it could be. Emma's brother, Giles, is engaged to a woman who may be more interested in Barrington's fortune and title than in a long and happy marriage.

I agree with the other reviewers, this 3rd book seemed like filler.

Giles Barrington's whole MP campaign ran too long.

    *Spoilers*

And after all that has happened with Harry and Emma, Seb would just run off?
Perhaps this was a ploy to create another villain for future books that involves the next generation?

Finally, what kind of an ending was that?!?!
And yes, like a pawn, I will “read” book 4.

Successful fashion blogger McKenna Bell has spent far too long protecting herself after the way her ex-fiancé left her at the altar for a college chick he met the night of his bachelor party. Loving again, trusting again, well, that's just not in the cards. Especially now that her ex is back in town with his new woman, demanding custody of McKenna's favorite creature in the whole world - her dog. McKenna's had enough of him, and she decides to even the score by finding her own hot young thing - a Trophy Husband.

So picked up this title for $3+, not a bad listen for the price.

Enjoyed the narrator and had a few chuckles.
Like me, you'll be screaming in your head on what McKenna should do towards the end...

Iris Scanlon, Half-Moon Hollow's only daytime vampire concierge, knows more about the undead than she'd like. Running all their daylight errands - from letting in the plumber to picking up some chilled O neg - gives her a look at the not-so-glamorous side of vampire life. Her rules are strict; relationships with vamps are strictly business, not friendship - and certainly not anything else. But then she finds her newest client, Cal, poisoned on his kitchen floor, and only Iris can help.

On a whim and recommend from Audible, I picked up this audiobook.

The overprotective drop dead geougeous Cal, who just happend to be a vampire meets Iris Scanlon the mortal. The witty banter that ensues is more than worth the listen.

Though the Greek and Roman crewmembers of the Argo II have made progress in their many quests, they still seem no closer to defeating the earth mother, Gaea. Her giants have risen - all of them - and they're stronger than ever. They must be stopped before the Feast of Spes, when Gaea plans to have two demigods sacrificed in Athens. She needs their blood - the blood of Olympus - in order to wake.

Why do I feel like it's the ending to The Soparnos all over again?!
So many unanswered questions. Why can't endings be wrapped up in a nice little bow.

Huzzah for saving the world and fighting monsters. I even enjoyed the "getting" to know a bit of Reyna's back story. But when did Percy and Annabeth become background characters?

Even though the book was a good listen, it just felt short compared to others in the series.

When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, it becomes clear that there is more to Quine's disappearance than his wife realizes. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows.

I must admit, the storyline of the 2nd book, The Silkworm, didn't keep me as engaged as The Cuckoo's Calling. The whole London publishing world, Owen Quine's novel subject matter, hunting for clues that went nowhere, etc got muddled in somehow...

What kept me listening on was Cormoran Strike and Robin. You get to find out a bit more of Strike's background, and Robin's family. Their complicated personal lives kept me engaged. We all love drama.

After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: his sister, the legendary supermodel Lula Landry, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.

The first book was so so, and thought I should give the series another shot...
Yea, I'm out on the series.

Victor is thrown into another entanglement, and his "friendship" with Proctor develops, albeit tenuous. Again, the overall story was just okay for a thriller. I need to be taken on a roller coaster ride, ya hear?

Meet Victor. He's an assassin - a man with no past and no surname. He lives alone. He operates alone. He's given a job; he takes out the target; he gets paid. He's The Killer. Victor arrives in Paris to perform a standard kill and collect for an anonymous client. He completes it with trademark efficiency - only to find himself in the middle of an ambush and fighting for his life.

On a chance, I took up a new series by Tom Wood...

While the story felt like it dragged at times, overloaded with words and not enough "catch" to get you engaged in the story... I did like the characters and was looking fwd to their development.

At the end of the day, the formula was there, sure, but it wasn't a fun ride like a thriller should be.

Robin Maxwell’s debut novel introduces Anne Boleyn and her daughter, Elizabeth: one was queen for a thousand days, the other for more than 40 years. Both were passionate, headstrong women, loved and hated by Henry VIII. At the beginning of Elizabeth’s reign, her mother’s private diary is given to her by a mysterious lady. In reading it, the young ruler - herself embroiled in a dangerous love affair - discovers a great deal about her much maligned mother.

I am a big fan of thrillers, whether is police, spy, legal, etc.
And I Am Pilgrim is simply one of the best that I've heard in a long time.

The breakdown of the parts and chapters are refreshing and very easy to follow.
Not to mention the narration by Christopher Ragland makes the story believable and engaging.

The storyline deals with all the possible relevant “what ifs”.

Hope "Pilgrim" will appear in other books down the line.
