It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

This was the best audiobook I've listened to in ages. The narration was perfect -- I really felt like the two characters were actually telling their stories (book is written in first person). The plot just kept getting better and more compelling. The author is a wonderful writer -- I'm surprised I haven't discovered her before. The plot, the writing, the narration, all of it added up to a delightful read. I cannot recommend this title highly enough.

By the way, this is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review.

After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: his sister, the legendary supermodel Lula Landry, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.

The characters in this book really came to life. I don't know if it was Galbraith's (really J.K. Rowling's) terrific dialogue, or Glenister's facility with different accents and voices, but the characters were so distinct and believable!

I also liked the plot quite a bit. I'm a sucker for a good mystery, a down-and-out gumshoe who makes good, and anything British. So, this novel was the perfect listen for me, as it had all three.

Over the course of this gripping narrative, Dave Cullen approaches his subjects with unrivaled care and insight. What emerges are shattering portraits of the killers, the victims, and the community that suffered one of the greatest - and most socially and historically important - shooting tragedies of the 20th century.

This book was very well researched and written. I didn't know all that much about the Columbine shooting before I began, and it turns out that much of what the public was told by the media was simply incorrect. The author did a great job of really going in depth about both the victims and the shooters. Terrific listen.
