"Incredible Adventure"
I have downloaded almost 200 books in the year that I have been on audible.com and Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series is without a doubt the very best!! I am not usually a fan of romance ... I lean more towards mysteries & thrillers ... but audible ran a 9.95 special on the first 3 books in the Outlanders series and I love long unabridged books so I decided to give them a try. What an adventure, Davina Porter is an awesome narrator and I felt like I was swept away to Scotland with Jamie & Claire. At the time I finished the 3rd book audible only had the abridged version in the 4th book "drums of autumn" so I tried it, that was a real bummer, it was not narrated by Davina Porter and I wasvery disappointed but they have since added the unabridged and it is MUCH better, I loved it also. Hopefully they will eventually add the last 2 in the series (I have already read them but would love to add them to my audible's library). I have never listened to any of my downloads a second time until this series, it is so good that as soon as I finished the 6th book, I started all over again and was swept away just as much as the first time. I am sure you will love the adventure just as much .... happy listening!!
"A True Adventure"
This was my very first Bryce Courtaney, had never even heard of him ... I did a search for historical fiction over 20 hours long and this was one that came up, it sounded interesting so I figured, why not .... WOW, I was hooked right away, with both the fantastic story and the awesome narrator Humphery Bower. I think it took me 2 days to finish it cause I could not put it down. As soon as it ended I downloaded the other 2 books in the trilogy, Tommo & Hawk and Solomon's song. Of course this is a fictional story but knowing that some characters are based on real people made it all the more interesting. I have gone on to download many more of Bryce Courtaney's and have never been the least bit disappointed.
"Another Winner"
Bryce Courtaney is a Master, have yet to read/listen to one of his that I have not LOVED and Humphrey Bower's voice is incredible. I can't imagine anyone not truly enjoying this one!
"Moving"
I discovered Bryce Courtenay because of the length of his books and after 6 of them have yet to listen to one that was not awesome. The narrator Humphery Bower has the greatest voice for story telling, a different voice for every character and he can sing too. This story truly moved me, if you are overly emotional (which I usually am not) you might want to keep some tissues handy ... I made sure to call my mom after finishing to tell her how very much I appreciate her & the love she has always shown ALL of her children. "Jessica" is one of those stories that will stay with you for a lifetime
"Slow Start"
I downloaded this one mainly because of the length and the Narrator, Humphrey Bower (love his voice). I started it one day and after an hour I book marked and went to another story ... it just did not catch me. A few weeks and several books later I finished a book at work and nothing else to listen to so I went back to Shantaram somewhat reluctantly ... within another hour I was caught up, hook line and sinker and did not want to put it down again until the end. If you have patience to let the story and characters build then I think you will truly enjoy ... if you need to be "caught" up quickly then this one may not be the one for you.
"Captivating"
This one sat in my wish list for a couple of months while I debated. The length did not bother me, that was why it ended up in my wish list to begin with ... but was not sure how interesting a story about 13 century cathedral building would be. I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!! I have downloaded close to 200 books in the past year and this one and the following "World without End" also by Ken Follett, which I downloaded immediately after this one, are definitely in my top 10 faves. I agree with others that it is a bit heavy on the sex but it was still a wonderfully captivating adventure.
"Slow Start but worth it!"
The reading is so slow that if I had not been at work alone on a Saturday I probably would not have had the patients to stick with it through the first 2 hours or so ... but thankfully I did, once you get used to and in rythym with the reader, wow ... I didn't want to shut it off. Chiefs is definately one of my fave downloads so far ... now I want to find the movie that was made from it over 20 years ago.
