This book doesn't rank very high. The story itself is great when you take away the many tedious classifications of fish and plant life included. The book could be shortened by a quarter without of the exhaustive listings. A bit of an uphill climb if you will.
The book would be a good comparison to Journey to the Center of the Earth. Jules Verne loves to include lots of classifications! Great story writer though!!
When the Captain was explaining the submarine functions to his captives. Even before that technology existed, much of it was prophesied by Jules Verne. Very exciting!
I can tell you that this is the book that portrays the reality of the United States Naval Submarine Force. As an ex-submariner, I found myself busting a gut while reading (and relating) to the hilarious stories in this book. Del Laughery portrayed the life of a submariner as the way it is.Note: This book is not just for ex-submariners! Del explains the details vividly enough that even NUBS (read the book for definition of word) can envision the story being told. Anyone interested in what happens at sea on a submarine should get this book. Especially if you have friends or family at sea and you want to know what their up to. Get the book and be ready for laughter!!!
Nothing compares as I've never read anything that comes this close to getting it right!
Barry had a great solid performance! He even sounded a bit salty when speaking as the Captain!! Kudos!!!
Yea! I laughed my butt off!!!!
Get this book! You'll be glad you did. Be warned though. Just like a submarine deployment, there is crude language throughout.
I loved this book. It's a classic for good reason. Way before Jurassic Park, there was this book. I wasn't sure if I would like it, but it turned out to be a great surprise. The narration is a bit old as the sound quality isn't crystal clear, but the narrator did an outstanding job with this performance.
You could compare this to Journey to the Center of the Earth because of the time period and the dinosaurs.
Getting the voices right! He really did do a great job with this book.
A Jurassic Story with a classic bite!!
The narrator did a great job with a great piece of literature!! This really is a timeless book for Christians. Please do yourself a favor and pick this one up. You will not regret it!!
This was a theological book. The character would be God. What's not to love!!
Quote: "When God breathed on clay, it became man. When God breathes on man, he becomes clay."
You could. It's very inspiring!!
Yes. If you're a Star Wars fan, this is a no-brainer. Marc Thompson does another fantastic job narrating.
Mara Jade. She's just too cool! She's an up and coming Jedi with an attitude.
Luke Skywalker. Marc Thompson does a great job matching tones and vocal gestures.
This is a great book by Ravi! If you have read anything by him and liked it, this is for you as well. I loved that he narrated the book!!
Nothing. It was great!
I have. As with any other readings or lectures from Ravi, you will love his performance.
Not really. I have too much to do to listen to an entire book in one sitting.
It's a great "little guy" victory story mixed with awesome sci-fi. The creative genius of Orson Scott Card is amazing with this story. It does get pretty dark at times, but not too much.
Ender was my favorite character simply for the fact that the story revolves around him.
Disconnected, Jumbled, Distracting
I liked the book. This is some great science fiction!! The narration could have been much better though.
Marc Thompson!! He always brings the Star Wars universe to life with his narration. The story was great as well. Think of it as Oceans 11 meets Star Wars.
I liked the scene when the safe was rolling through the streets.
His first person voice impersonations are spot on! Especially when it comes to Han and Lando.
I wouldn't say that the book moved me.
Great book for Star Wars fans. As with many of the Star Wars books, there are great sound effects and music to provide the listener with a more cinematic experience.
Prelude to Sci-fi!
I might compare this to Journey to the The Lost World. The time period of this style writing is similar.
The narration was o.k. I've heard better. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either.
Great short story to include into your library. Definitely worth the listen!
I could sum up Tim Curry's performance with these three words: Classy, Rich, and Smart! He did an outstanding job bringing this classic story to life.
I don't usually listen to this genre of books, so I have none to compare it to.
Tim was spot on throughout the read. His accent was wonderful. His vocal mannerisms added to each character.
I laughed many times while listening to this book.
Since the book was free at Christmas, it was a no-brainer. I'm glad that I took the time to listen to this book!
