William Manchester is one of the great writers of our time and does the most extensive and readable biography of one of the most important individual of the 20th century.
I enjoy Follett, Pillars of the Earth is in my top 10 all time favorites. This is a great read and can be enjoyed by teens as well. Just look at what a Hornet from WW2 looks like to get the feel of what these young kids did.
I read this in the early 80's and was blown away with Rand's insight into those who don't understand anything about a free market economy. Carter was proving to be a disaster and the whole re-definition of Government, manhood, character etc was not being challenged by many in the media or public discussions (Bill Buckley and Bill Simon were lights in the darkness then). I disagree with her values of selfishness, but the novel as a whole was insightful and, having re-read it this year, continues to prove prophetic!
I had heard these were good books for kids. I wanted to preview these for my grand children and am now through book 4. Well written, yes there are no references to God, but classic good and serious evil plots that are extremely readable!
I know many of the places that he is described and they made me want to revisit them. I especially wanted to get the book about the old cowboy and found it on Amazon and have read it very good read and the book itself on travel was exceptionally well-written.
Very informing and loaded with history, would have liked more on Simon and Daniel Boons relationship but overall a great story.
I have always enjoyed McMurtry's books but was disappointed in this one. I may have wanted more.
Manchester relates the time between the fall of the Roman Empire to the beginning of the events that have shaped our world with the most compelling and objective perspective of history I have ever read!
Two stories intertwined that make it impossible to put down! Great for the drive from California to New Mexico.
I am really excited after listening to my first Flynn book. A frind recommended this when he found out I liked Daniel Silvas books. I now have a favorite series to look forward to listening too.
