"Extreme Twists"
The story is more frustrating than climactic. The author twists the personality of characters into extremes to change a plot. It's the same for all 3 books of Song of Ice and Fire...I got in to this so I have to swallow what I've placed into my mouth but If I were you...skip this series. There's nothing here but Familial schemes to get a throne but the plots are so twisted where one cannot expect of the characters the author has made us to beleive. The author does the impossible twists to get a longer story.
"Not for Adults"
This story is for kids. Dont wast your credit on this. The story is so childish It makes me cringe just to finish this off. I guess I was hoping for intricate plots. The premise of an orphaned boy making it to knight school should have set the stage for a good fantasy. Alas, No. The boy acts like a spoiled kid too and there goes your underdog story out the window.
"Tiresome"
Like the pillars of the earth the story gets tiresome. Same as pillars, the story revolves around a few characters and the their misfortunes. Same plot of building and rape the story gets boring. 40 hrs of listening to this nonsense gets into your nerves.
"Lousy Story"
The narrator is ok. However, the story is very lousy. The author makes her principal characters brilliant in one and idiots the next just to make twists in the plot. It's like, there's no real characterization. I see now, how this novel can be made into multiple sequels. The author doesn't stick to the personality of her characters. Thereby, making multiple twists in the story. What a waste of credit.
"Good story for 1 credit"
It starts slow at first I was tempted to stop at 5 hrs but it gets interesting from 7hrs to end. It's annoying at times how the author jumps to a future date and backtracking on a plot. This 40hr novel doesnt end in a sense. I think there's a sequel to this. I like Scott Brick as a narrator so It was worth the listen. The story dwells on a screwed up military science experiment that practically wiped out the world. It dwells on how people cope up with it and how a little girl can save the world.
"Good Story...Bad Narration"
Good story but the constant swallowing and lip smacking of the narrator makes me cringe.
"Annoying"
Jim Butcher is one of my favorite authors for the Alera saga but this start of Dresden files is simply lacking. Add the narrator's annoying heavy sighs, grunts, and swallows makes this audiobook very annoying. Sorry, Jim...I wont be a fan of Dresden.
"Annoying Narrator"
An annoying narrator that intermittently makes a swallowing sound that's very distracting. I have to endure the whole audiobook listening to this sound. Better off reading.
"Annoying Narrator"
This series is great. As an epic fantasy fan I greatly enjoyed the Twelve Houses. However, I am rating this particular audiobook. You can hear the narrator's subtle breathing at the end of every sentence like she's short of breath. It's very annoying. And I'm only using the standard Ipod earphones. But there's no choice but to endure the narration. Great series.
"Confusing Story"
The narrator is good but the story is so confusing. It's a story within a story that gets jumbled.
"Boring"
6 hours into listening this book and I gave up. 6 hrs of listening to mundane storytelling is enough. Thats one credit to waste.
