    Do you enjoy emotionless, robotic voices that make you want to tear your hair out? Then this is the book for you!

    Honestly, if I could, I would give the performance zero stars. Mister Allerde sucks all the life and fun out of this story. I've often found my thoughts wandering then picking back up and realizing that I've missed about ten minutes of the story and have to listen to it again. It's a big problem for me because I really enjoy detective/thriller stories and LGBT romances. This book is both so it's a great catch! Sadly, I can't stand it due to the grating performance. I even found myself laughing in the more intimate parts of the book because Mister Allerde was just so DEADPAN. Growling, hissing, yelling, talking like a normal human being, all of them sound the exact same: stiff.

    BUT, when I found myself actually focusing on the story, I found it quite enjoyable. Ty and Zane are your typical dynamic duo of extreme opposites but they play off each other nicely.

    All in all, it was a good book, but the performance basically ruined all of it.

    FOR RENT: Top two floors of beautifully renovated brownstone, 1300 sq. ft., 2BR 2BA, eat-in kitchen, one block to parks and playgrounds. No broker's fee. Susan and Alex Wendt have found their dream apartment. Sure, the landlady is a little eccentric. And the elderly handyman drops some cryptic remarks about the basement. But the rent is so low, it's too good to pass up. Big mistake.

    As far as characters, setting and writing go, Mister Winters did a great job. The narration was very well done (though I didn't much care for the toddler's voice). My problem being was coming into this book hoping for something genuinely scary, or at least, unsettling, but I got none of that. By the time the mystery was finally tied up, it was very near the end and I had basically lost interest at that point.

    Listen for the characters, but don't get your hopes up for anything 'horror' related.

    There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

    Would you listen to 14 again? Why?

    This story really drags you in. At first it may start a little slow, but ever so gradually it builds up and you can't stop listening to it as you uncover the mystery with the characters. I found myself actually crying out excitedly as something was revealed. I would definitely get the book itself because this is seriously great.

    Yes. If you're looking for a good laugh and a horror story all smashed into one, you'd definitely like this.

    Definitely the performance. He did a good job at keeping the story interesting instead of making me want to gouge out my eardrums.

    It's definitely not the kind of book for people who don't have the humor of a 12 year old boy. Thankfully I do and the book is hilarious to me.
