"A good book to share with others"
I would echo some of the previous reviews in that, this is a book well worth listening to. The author talked about many facets of memory throughout history. He shared his journey with humor and insight. He looked at, explored and answered many questions we all have regarding memory and how it plays into our everyday lives. Historical, informative, practical and human. Extra points to Mike Chamberlain for an excellent narration.
"Disappointing Audio"
I was so eager to hear this part of the story after listening to "River God" which was an amazing, wonderful story, read by a talented reader.
The audio on this book,"The Seventh Scroll", is the poorest I have heard; after listening to over 50 audio books. At times I could not even make out the words??? On a lesser scale, the names and places that were pronounced differently in this sequel to "River God". If this book has it's own good story, I will not know until I read the book myself. I am so very disappointed!
"Gus Will Grow On You"
I understand the reviewer who said that he shut off the book because of Lee Horsley's interpretation of Augustus McCrae's voice. It unsettled me a bit in the beginning of the book as well. I listened on and WOW, this is an all out great book! I even fell in love with "Gus" myself, (just like all the other ladies), and learned to loved his voice as well. I have to say the Lee Horsley over all was very amazing. He had great voices for each character, and he was very consistent in their uses. GREAT writer, wonderful storyteller. YOU MUST LISTEN TO THIS BOOK!!! Thank you to my fine brother for recommending it!
"Man Voices for the Girls"
Yeah, I just did not enjoy this book at all. Bland story. The real killer was the reader. She spoke with a deeper voice for all the female characters. It made it difficult to see the characters as real people. I kept trying to get past the voice and see the people through my own eyes, but even then the story was a lot of nothing. No real mystery...just a lot of talk like "Well maybe it was this person for this reason". A good mystery needs clues and a twist. Skip this one!
