  • The Politically Incorrect Guide to Capitalism

Participating in the economy is a part of everyday life; yet much of what is commonly accepted as fact is wrong. Keynesian schoolteachers and the liberal media have filled the world with politically correct errors that myth-busting professor Robert Murphy sets straight. Murphy explains hot topics like outsourcing (why it's good for Americans) and zoning restrictions (why they're not). Just like the other books in the P.I.G. series, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Capitalism pulls no punches.

Michael was in a hurry. He was scrambling up the ladder at Drake & Sweeney, a giant D.C. firm with 800 lawyers. The money was good and getting better; a partnership was 3 years away. He was a rising star with no time to waste, no time to stop, no time to toss a few coins into the cups of panhandlers. No time for a conscience. But a violent encounter with a homeless man stopped him cold. Also available abridged.

Would you try another book from John Grisham and/or Frank Muller?

I'm a sort of fan of Grisham. So I came to this looking forward to another good story.

What a disappointment. After a couple hours, I concluded that was only going to get worse, so I quit.

Not sure what is going on. Maybe Grisham is feeling guilty about his success. Anyway, this is an incredible downer - an outpouring of how successful people should be guilty about causing all the worlds ills. In this case homelessness.

What could John Grisham have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Toss the manuscript in the trash.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The hostage scene at the beginning.

    Any additional comments?

    Ugh

When Nita Morales hires Elvis Cole to find her missing adult daughter, she isn’t afraid, even though she’s gotten a phone call asking for ransom. She knows it’s a fake, that her daughter is off with the guy Nita will call only “that boy,” and that they need money: "Even smart girls do stupid things when they think a boy loves them." But she is wrong....

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Maybe I am spoiled by Vince Flynn.
This book looks for loooooong excuses to have no action and no interest.

I kept trying and finally just quit.

Would you ever listen to anything by Robert Crais again?

    Nope

Did Luke Daniels do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

    huh? What characters?

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Taken?

Starting with chapter one and all the rest

  • The Abolition of Man & The Great Divorce

Have we been taught to discount the veracity and deeper meaning of our emotional resonance with the world around us? In The Abolition of Man, C.S. Lewis looks at the curriculum of the English "prep school" and begins to wonder if this subliminal teaching has indeed produced a generation who discount such a nature.

A foundation premise of our Consitution is the truth of Natural Law. This book explores that notion with amazing intellect and compelling reason. I think this is an important book for anyone who wants to really understand the great American Experiment.

Keeps your brain working... but it was fun to listen to.
