  • Nightlife

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 49 mins)
    • By Rob Thurman
    • Narrated By Patrick Lawlor
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In New York, there's a troll under the Brooklyn Bridge, a boggle in Central Park, and a beautiful vampire in a penthouse on the Upper East Side. Of course, most humans are oblivious to this, but Cal Leandros is only half-human. His father's dark lineage is the stuff of nightmares - and he and his entire otherworldly race are after Cal.

Kathryn S. March says: "Highly entertaining"
"Wrong voice for this young bad ass."

I love this book series, but the voice they chose to act out the young, 20 year old, Cal Leandros sounds more like a 40 years old drinker. Bad choice. The narrator does a great job in the acting role and captures the feeling of the book, but no one would buy that voice as a 20 year old who drips with sarcasm. I do want to hear the rest of the series come to life, but may be some one like Holter Graham could capture the youthful ring and deep torment that is Cal.

  • Geronimo Stilton: Books 4-6

    • UNABRIDGED (3 hrs and 23 mins)
    • By Geronimo Stilton
    • Narrated By Edward Herrmann

When my old friend Professor von Volt called to ask for help, I agreed immediately, even though it meant trekking halfway around the world to Mouse Everest! The trip was long and dangerous. I almost froze my tail off along the way. And then I was kidnapped by a yeti! Yes, it was truly an amazing adventure.

    richard says: "Encore"
    "Fun with a mouse"

  • Outlander

    • UNABRIDGED (33 hrs and 8 mins)
    • By Diana Gabaldon
    • Narrated By Davina Porter
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

Sara says: "The Time Travel VS Romance Quandary"
    "Wonderful book in all formats"
Would you listen to Outlander again? Why?

Yes. There is a lot of content and I am sure I will find something I missed the first time through.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Outlander?

When Claire passes through the standing stones.

Have you listened to any of Davina Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

  • The Killing Dance: Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, Book 6

    • ABRIDGED (7 hrs and 17 mins)
    • By Laurell K. Hamilton
    • Narrated By Kimberly Alexis

In The Killing Dance, vampire hunter Anita Blake finds herself the victim when a $500,000 price is put on her head, and the two men in her life - a vampire and a werewolf-aren't helping the situation.

    L. L. Kiminki says: "Medium, good narration, bad story"
    "Medium, good narration, bad story"

The narrator of this series is an excellent fit for Anita Blake. However, I long since abandoned this series because Ms. Hamilton lost the working class stories of a zombie raiser and vampire executioner for a harem of men and a self righteous attitude. This book is when this series start to head downhill fast.

  • Blood Bound: Mercy Thompson, Book 2

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 2 mins)
    • By Patricia Briggs
    • Narrated By Lorelei King
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Mechanic Mercy Thompson has friends in low places - and in dark ones. And now she owes one of them a favor. Since she can shapeshift at will, she agrees to act as some extra muscle when her vampire friend Stefan goes to deliver a message to another of his kind. But this new vampire is hardly ordinary - and neither is the demon inside of him.

    Deborah says: "Blood Bound"
    "Great listening, great story"

The Mercy Thompson series is wonderful and this audio version does not disappoint. Lorelei King bring Mercy to life and I even found the male voices well done, even the Italian accent that belongs to Stephan and his seethe.

  • Infinity: Chronicles of Nick

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 53 mins)
    • By Sherrilyn Kenyon
    • Narrated By Holter Graham

At 14, Nick Gautier thinks he knows everything about the world around him. Streetwise, tough and savvy, his quick sarcasm is the stuff of legends - until the night when his best friends try to kill him. Saved by a mysterious warrior who has more fighting skills than Chuck Norris, Nick is sucked into the realm of the Dark-Hunters: immortal vampire slayers who risk everything to save humanity.

Jeanie Jenkins says: "Fantastic Prequel/Sequel to the Dark Hunter Series"
"Funny and easy to listen to."

I enjoy Holter Graham's take on the Dark Hunter series, i.e. My Big Fat Supernatural Wedding", and this installment didn't disappoint. Nick's story is a great one and is cohesive if you are familiar with the adult Nick in the Dark Hunter series. I found this story funny and good natured with all the snarkiness Ms. Kenyon's books are known for.

  • Dark and Stormy Knights

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 32 mins)
    • By Ilona Andrews, Jim Butcher, Shannon K Butcher, and others
    • Narrated By Renee Raudman, Joe Barrett, Marc Vietor, and others
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

It was a dark and stormy knight, and nine dark defenders embarked upon a most perilous quest. They're the ultimate defenders of humanity, modern day knights who do dark deeds for all the right reasons. In this all-star collection, nine of today's hottest paranormal authors bring us thrilling, all-new stories of supernatural knights that are brimming with magic mystery and mayhem.

    L. L. Kiminki says: "Get this just for P.N. Elrod, not for Jim Butcher"
"Get this just for P.N. Elrod, not for Jim Butcher"

All of the entries are excellent reads, but as we all know the story narrated can ruin it for you. All of the entries are well read, however, the man who ready Jim Butcher's entry about the infamous character John Marcone needed to be told that he didn't have to sound like a "wise guy" from some old 50's film. Johnny is not a smoker or drinker and this buy sounded like he had been on binge all of his life. The upside is that David Pittu is excellent as 30's vampire and super sleuth Jack Fleming is right on the mark.
